I *would* endorse if I understood it better. Wouldn't it be easier to just build some Meta pages? I think there was some discussion about moving Outreach to Meta (sorry I haven't followed all discussions). I know that personally I only come to Meta when I am sent a link (like this one). Outreach is something I only go to because of the cultural-partners email list requires it (and This Month in Glam of course). Jane023 (talk) 11:44, 3 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jane023, I'm thinking about this tool as work around for herding all the pages on to one site, you could just provide a link to this tool on Meta, Outreach etc. I did think about using wiki pages to create lists of useful links, I think there are a number of issues with creating another set of wiki pages:
  • Would be another useful lists in a long line of useful lists, can be summed up with this cartoon.
  • Harder to search
  • Would be difficult to make it multilingual in the same way you can with this tool.
  • Harder to add to, the current idea with adding to this search tool is just to fill in a Google Form and it will appear in the search results
  • Harder to cover such a wide range of resources without a lot a thought about categorisation and splitting resources onto different pages.
Hope this is helpful, let me know if you have any more questions.

Some name ideas

[edit]

Hey John! Brilliant idea, definitely think there are a lot of opportunities here, and glad to give some ideas about names. I would recommend playing around with some of the Walronyms -- I find trying to force your idea into an acronym, forces you to creatively figure out what you are trying to communicate. For example, The Finding Outreach from Wikimedia Land could be "The FOWL" :P or you could do WOLF - Wikipedia Outreach Library Finder. Or maybe even The SOW Tools Now!: Search Outreach for Wikimedia Tools Now! Hope that helps, Sadads (talk) 13:41, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adding materials by Wiki category

[edit]

Something you might want to consider, is an automatic tool for scrapping in bundles of pages based on category (for instance Category:GLAM on Outreach). I don't think every resource will want to be added manually. Sadads (talk) 21:54, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sadads, this sounds good, if you know anyone who could make it work do point them in the right direction. Mrjohncummings (talk) 08:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
