What's the fit with Wikimedia?

[edit]

Hi User:Chelder86, thanks for starting to draft this proposal. Better language learning games seems like a great thing for the world! But I'm not sure what the fit is with Wikimedia specifically. Can you please clarify how this project would be improving one of Wikimedia's existing websites? I don't yet understand the connection you're making with Wikiversity. Best wishes, Siko (WMF) (talk) 00:01, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Siko (WMF) (talk). Thank you for your feedback! It helps me to improve my explanation. My mentor asked me to apply because we have a similar mission and strategic priorities. Specifically, we have the same mission of engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain (I don't want to sell it to private schools so they would want to use it exclusively).

It won't improve one of Wikimedia's existing websites. It will create a new similar system: anybody can create games and play them. As we read that one of the strategic priorities is Encourage Innovation, we thought this grant could help. If not, I hope to get some recommendations, suggestions or (specially) people who want to join the project!

Ineligible for an IEG

[edit]

Thanks for submitting this idea - your goals seem wonderful and I wish you the best success. Unfortunately, this does not appear to meet the eligibility criteria for an Individual Engagement Grant project - namely, that IEG projects should improve Wikimedia's existing websites, rather than starting new websites for other projects. So, I've marked the status as ineligible in its current state. Feel free to keep working on this page for other purposes, though, and if you have an idea in the future that focuses on improving a Wikimedia project, you'd be welcome to submit something in a future round. Thanks again for participating! Siko (WMF) (talk) 21:32, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
