Unclear scope

[edit]

Most of the suggested questions here have an unclear purpose and I wouldn't know how or why to make use of them. For instance, when I do a workshop, I just ask participants to raise their hand if they already registered/edited/etc. and I check afterwards what their edits are and what skills they demonstrate. I don't need that stuff from a survey.

Things useful to know from courses/etc. attendees are things like:

  • whether it should last more/less,
  • what topics should (not) be covered,
  • whether some things were too easy or too hard,
  • whether they are interested in attending another one.

Thanks so much Nemo. Are you planning on running a survey soon? These questions were created from previous surveys that have been used for Wikimedia-related activities from chapters, communities and WMF. These sound like good questions we could add. Do you have other suggestions? --EGalvez (WMF) (talk)

Community feedback

[edit]

The page about "community feedback" contains suggested questions which all reference an hypothetical wikimedian in residence program. What's the connection between WIR and surveys? Do you think surveys are a good way to assess a WIR and why? In my experience, feedback must be gathered

  • directly on-wiki,
  • by the WIR itself,
  • during the WIR,
  • from the users connected to the area being worked on,
  • considering all signals including edits and log actions in all languages, not just words and explicit messages.

Hey Nemo. Yes, these questions were gathered from a survey done related to a Wikimedian in Residence. I think surveys are a great way for the Wikimedian in Residence to learn from those involved, including the hosting organizations as well as volunteers who may have been involved in either planning or creating content. The data is always helpful. Are you involved in WIR in any way right now or are you thinking of doing a survey for Wikimedians in Residence? --EGalvez (WMF) (talk)
I'm involved in several WIRs now and surveys are not planned for any. I can't tell whether future WIRs will consider running surveys. --Nemo 17:02, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
