Appreciation

[edit]

Thank you for sharing your progress with us in this report and for sharing information about your activities that may be useful to others in the movement. We’d like to share a few high points below. Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 23:56, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for your work on Wiki Loves Public Art and other projects that WMSE believes have the potential to contribute to movement-wide activities. We see that you’ve been able to adapt your plan to seize the opportunity to hire someone to support GLAM technical work.
  • Congratulations on the placement of the first Wikipedian in Academy.
  • We appreciate that you are developing tools to train teachers as part of your work on the education program. We hope that you continue to share these tools with the movement. It seems you are generating a lot of enthusiasm around your education activities.
  • We note that there may be opportunities to collaborate with other chapters working on political awareness throughout Europe; we appreciate your volunteer’s work in this area.
  • WMSE continues to make progress in the area of content liberation, resulting in images uploaded to Commons.

We would like to learn more

[edit]

Please share some additional information about your activities and focus.

  • It seems you are generating a lot of interest among GLAMs in releasing content. Are you yet doing anything to track the second objective of this program, by looking at the quality of content being released?
    • So far our work has mainly consisted of guiding GLAMs to do the homework before uploading. That means that it is a bit too early to see the fruits of our work, but we do have this in mind all the time. Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 11:40, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • We would like to better understand how WMSE sees its project focus in particular languages. For example, to what extent do you see your activities as focused on en.wikipedia, se.wikipedia, or other language versions of different projects? How do you make those prioritizations?

Thank you, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 23:56, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • For other languages, we have mostly been working on enwp so far, but workshops we have had has also seen contributions in ruwp, eowp and frwp. We are planning work on sewp and are talking with WMNO about a cooperation about that since they have a lot of expeience there. The Swedish For Immigrants project will start seriously this autumn and will address at least nine languages, listed here. Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 11:40, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the responses, Jan. Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 19:21, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for future reports

[edit]

This is a quality report. We would like to challenge WMSE in the area of producing more informative metrics as it deepens its role as a movement leader:

  • In general, we would appreciate more detailed metrics. For example, rather than tracking the number of events, we would be interested to learn how many people attended the events and if any content was contributed.
  • We would also like to see metrics clearly linked to the objectives of each program. For example, if editor satisfaction is listed as an objective we would like to know if or how WMSE is measuring satisfaction. Another example: beyond measuring the number of teachers trained for the education program, it would be great to know if and how they are using Wikipedia in the classroom. We’d also like to learn what content, if any, is being contributed to Wikipedia projects as a result of these activities.
  • We’re excited about the tool you’re developing to track participation. We hope to learn more in the next report about how you have been using it to track the activities of participants in these community support workshops.
  • It seems your reader participation program is still getting off the ground, but we hope to learn more about the areas for improvement in user interface and content that you discover.

Thanks again for your work. Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 23:56, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
