Proposed participation
[edit]I will be presenting Arqueología del Conocimiento en Wikipedia en Español, on a research paper about the use of the View History function in Wikipedia to detect and correlate vandalisms in the encyclopedia with historical events. I will be participating in a Digital Humanities panel, so I will be able to show my colleagues that they can use Wikipedia both as an tool for social sciences and a field of study in sociology of knowledge. Moreover, my research will be one of the few made from Latin America, as I hope to encourage more research about the Wikimedia projects in the region.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]LASA (International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association) is one of the largest social sciences congresses in the world. As a result of my presentation, I will address the use of Wikipedia in academic research, and I will help the audience to reconsider their prejudices towards the encyclopedia. I will show how the production of knowledge can be studied in a live environment such as Wikipedia, and I'm willing to enrole them in future investigations about the Wikimedia projects and their impact in our world visions.
