Welcome back from Wikimania 2016!
Participant
[edit]Outcome
[edit]- Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?
- Add a link here to a blog post or newsletter you wrote about your participation afterwards, or to a meet-up you organized to share your experience with your local community.
This was the first time I attended Wikimania, and as far as I know, the second one a basque speaking user attends it. Due to the importance of this event for the basque community and the recently created Basque Wikimedians User Group, I have written a report just at the end of the conference with all the information and connections collected.
During the conference I alternated user digest sessions (University education, Secondary education and Wikimedia Affiliates) training sessions (like photographic skills, Wikidata and GLAM,), critical issues sessions (specially Outreach and Projects), and meetups (GLAM coordinators and Wiktionary).
Thanks to Wikimania we have launched or fixed the next projets:
- Wikidictionary and lingua franca: Wikimedia France has developed in a very interesting way Wikidictionary and we are going to try to apply the same system. Besides, the lingua franca programme is going to be tested with basque language in november. I have talked about the aplication calendar, next meeting, institutional engagement with some members of WMFR, so the calendar is set as follows.
- Donostiapedia projet's conferences: We have set in Wikimania the conferences of Donostiapedia's 30x30 Peace Treaties edith-a-thon.
Connections
[edit]Despite I have found the conferences interesting, the most remarkable thing was the new contacts I made or the elders I strengthe. All in all, I have note more than forty contacts in my agenda, so I will put on those who whould stablish new working possibilities.
- GLAM
I had a good talk with Barbara Fischter (WMDE) from with I have learned a lot. We have just started in basque wikipedia in Glam and she passed be helpful material. I participated too in the GLAM coordinators meetup where I me the main experts on GLAM: Alex Stinson, Liam Wyatt, Ruben Ojeda... among others.
- Community
I had the peasure of meeting many wikimedians in Esino Lario from very diferent communities and countries, which was a great experience for me. I would like to mention the people from Iberocoop: Dennis Tobar (Chile), Oscar Costero (Venezuela), Andrea Kleiman (Argentina)...People from Wikimedia España: Rubén Ojeda, Santiago Navarro, Tomas Saorin, Luis... People from Amical: Esther Solé, Marc, Francesc, Esther, Lluis... Wikimedia France: Remy, Noé, Lucas, Vigneron, Anne-Laure... From other projects: Liridon, Benoit, Stephano, Montse Boix... And many others.
Many ideas turn up in those inspiring meetings: an annual meeting around peninsular languages, the tranlation of WikiMOOC materials into basque language, edition challenge about women in science....
All in all, Wikimania is a good oportunity to learn, to share, but fundamentaly, to built bridges between different communities that otherwise would be isolated. I think that for the basque community it has been big deal to be in Wikimania and we hope to mantain this collaboration projects with the other communities.
