Proposed participation

[edit]

I am an active Wikimedian, contributing to Bengali Wikimedia projects, English Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. I am also a sysop in Bengali Wikipedia; founding Executive Member of the chapter Wikimedia Bangladesh (WMBD) and Director of Outreach of WMBD's Operations Committee. I've been involved with Wikimedia movement since 2009. Currently I am an undergraduate student. I wish to present my research paper on dynamics of Wikimedia community in the OpenSym 2015 Conference, for which I don't have any funding support either from the chapter or my university. I have submitted my research paper entitled "Dynamics and Impediments in Growth of Wikipedia Community" for presentation in the conference. Besides presenting research paper, I'd like to participate at the workshops and discussions with researchers and practitioners of open collaboration projects. I believe it will be a great learning opportunity to interact and engage in talks with Wikimedians and practitioners from diverse open-content collaboration projects.

Goal and expected impact

[edit]

My presentation explores the dynamics, attributes and issues concerning growth of Wikipedia community. Wikipedia has been created and is being maintained by volunteers from across the world who are collectively known as the Wikipedia community. I tried to investigate and explore the issues regarding the community's growth pattern, motivators and approaches of Wikipedians. It is imperative to understand the key aspects and approaches of Wikipedia community for sustainable development of Wikipedia. Interaction and integration of diverse ideas from various open-content collaboration projects will help better explore the Wikipedia community from critical perspectives, therefore it will be possible to address the requisites for how Wikipedia community can be enhanced in regions of the world where it is necessary. I have been involved in outreach activities related to the Wikimedia movement in Bangladesh since 2009, so as a consequence, my learning from the conference would particularly help me contribute to further the Wikimedia movement in Bangladesh.

  • Tanweer has consistently been one of the contributors of Wikipedia in Bangladesh and is one of the leading organizers of many offline events. I am sure that he will bring back a lot of learning to our community. I am endorsing his application. ~ Nahid Talk 11:35, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
