Event name[edit]

Open Source Bridge 2016

Participant connections[edit]

Some 15-20 people attended my presentation on June 23rd. Most attendees at my talk were people who have experience running non-profits and had also experienced growing pains with running their organizations, though a good chunk were also community managers and/or practitioners, similar to my presentation last year. My talk benefited from a presentation being given the day before, "Magic, Spontaneity or Planning: Different Approaches to Building an Open Source Foundation", which talked about how to build organizations built around open source; my presentation, on the other hand, dealt with how to make sure that the organization in question does not fail.

Open Source Bridge is also a very participant-centered conference, and as such I was able to meet many attendees both past and present who I was able to interact with. I've since connected with a group of people at the conference who are interested in creating diversity-friendly online spaces in tech, which may be useful for the Wikimedia movement as we seek to build ever-friendlier spaces for our community members to interact with.

Outcome[edit]

Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?
Add a link here to a blog post or newsletter you wrote about your participation afterwards, or to a meet-up you organized to share your experience with your local community.
Option 2: Learning Pattern: What is one useful learning pattern you can share with the Wikimedia movement?
Add a link to a learning pattern - either a new pattern you created with insights from your participation, or an existing pattern to which you added your endorsement and some significant new "considerations" or “examples” from your experience.
Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome of the event for the Wikimedia movement?
Add a link to something new that was created as a result of your participation in this event (for example, you might link to a new tool that you and your co-participants made as a result of attending this event, or to a set of articles that the participants in your workshop created at the event).

Finances[edit]

Amount left over[edit]

As I am requesting for reimbursement of my expenses, no funds will be left over.

Anything else[edit]

A link to the presentation recording (unfortunately, the conference organizers decided to record sessions using audio only) will be put up within sixty days of the conference, and my presentation is available here on Wikimedia Commons.
