Proposed Participation

[edit]

I will be sitting on a panel titled "80,000 Volunteers Can't Be Wrong: The Case for Greater Collaboration with Wikipedia." This panel will be chaired by Karen Weiss, Information Systems Manager from the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. Co-panelists are: Sara Snyder, Webmaster, Smithsonian Archives of American Art; Jill Reilly James, Social Media Team Manager, National Archives and Records Administration, and Dominic McDevitt-Parks, Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives and Records Administration.

You can learn more about the panel here.

This panel will take place on at the Society of American Archivists conference. This is North America's largest archives conference (just like the American Association of Museums is the largest museum conference).

I have served as the Wikipedian in Residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Art and most recently, Smithsonian Institution Archives. This panel will discuss GLAM WIKI participation between archives and Wikimedia, specifically.

Goal and Expected Impact

[edit]

We will have a successful panel coupled with quality conversation between panel participants and conference attendees. As with all of these conferences, contacts are often made. Any contacts made and contact information gathered will be added to our GLAM WIKI master contact list, and followed up by myself and Lori Byrd Phillips, United States Cultural Partnerships Coordinator. This is just another in a long line of opportunities to connect with GLAM communities and inform them of the impact and opportunities involving GLAM WIKI partnerships.

Note

[edit]

Please note that my GLAM WIKI efforts are completely volunteer and do not fall into the scope of my gender gap fellowship, hence my grant request.
