Outcome
[edit]- Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?
- Add a link to something new that was created as a result of your participation in this event (for example, you might link to a new tool that you and your co-participants worked on at the Hackathon, or to pages created in a workshop you participated in).
Personally, Wikimania 2016 was exceptionally useful for my work on the Wikimedia projects. I have learnt things ranging from what Open Street Map is all about, to good options for a first project of Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka, to the many other ways the WMF supports the movement. One of the most valuable moments to me would be the one-to-one discussion I had with User:Bluerasberry during the latter part of the event, about better ways to successfully get more local people involved in editing by making use of Grants.
Connections
[edit]Some of the editors with whom I spent good times with, or talked about important topics, include User:Daniel Case, User:OrenBochman, User:Rich Farmbrough, User:Bluerasberry, User:May Hachem93, User:Yiyi, User:Borovi4ok. We spent time on a lot of things including discussions about editor behaviour, policies, grants, editor recruitment/adoption, education programmes, tools and automations, to various random odd topics, including some of which cannot be comfortably mentioned here! :) Unfortunately, there are a lot more editors of whose usernames I don't recall, nevertheless, I got them on Facebook! Outside the main conference, I have also spent a lot of time sightseeing or hiking with fellow Wikimedians, something which I greatly value doing with people whom I usually only interact with online.
