WikiConference India 2011 Grant Report
[edit]Thanks a lot Wikimedia Foundation for the approval of this grant. It was a great event and i honored to be an attendee of this event. I learned a lot form here and this experience is going to help to make Wikipedia events more successful in Bangladesh.
In which parts I was interested most
[edit]I am active in Bengali Wikipedia and Wikipedia related outreach programs in Bangladesh. As i mentioned in my grant application i am more interested to contribute to the outreach programs rather than the editing. It was one of the main reasons join the conference. WikiConference India was one of the biggest wiki events. I talked with some of the members of the event organizing committee. We discussed about the venue management, ensure the security issues, media relation, speaker selection, scholarship selection process and some more event related topic. Beside the main event parts I had a good discussion on some of the ongoing outreach programs in India. I have regular contact with some of the Ambassadors of India. Within the all the days I tried to attend almost all outreach related sessions there.
The future plans
[edit]One of the most important goals to attend the conference was to get the chance to discuss with those people who are involved with Wikipedia student club/ Ambassador Program and the GLAM project. I had some good discussion with the ambassadors of the Pune pilot project . I am maintaining a regular communication with some of the ambassadors, so that I can replicate that program in Bangladesh. I already talked with my university authority about the program and i wish within few months i will be able to start at least a pilot project. And for many days we were planning to start a project similar to the GLAM. Our plan was to find those persons/groups or organizations who had taken photographs at the time period of the Mother Language Movement and our liberation war. We know a few of them who have those historical photos but unfortunately the project was not stared. Now inspired by this GLAM project we found that the project should be started soon and at the same time the GLAM can be started.
The steps taken
[edit]I have mentioned some of my future plans, and as a part of the Wikimedia Bangladesh I have to involve a good number of outreach programs. That means more new people will join us and will start to work as a team. So as a part of my on wiki contribution now I am focusing on translating and localized the policy pages of Bengali Wikipedia. Beside that I have started to edit some of the near future event and the articles which are very much related with the Bengali language and Bangladesh. We arranged a Wikimeetup last week. We got a good response and some important suggestions. After the sessions we( the interim EC members ) sit together and discussed about implementing the plans.
