Event name

[edit]

FOSSCamp Syros 2017

Participant connections

[edit]

I leaded three workshops, two of them related to Wiki Loves Maps project and one of them to Wikimedia editing articles related to Syros. There were 11-12 people attending my workshops. They were really interesting people from different projects, two of them hadn't worked with Wikimedia in general. They were enthusiast to keep contributing, we also told them about our hackerspace and many conferences where they can meet other Wikimedians and learn new things.

Outcome

[edit]
Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?
Add a link here to a blog post or newsletter you wrote about your participation afterwards, or to a meet-up you organized to share your experience with your local community.

This is the link to my first blog post dedicated to my participating to FOSSCamp. Also I'm thinking to share my experience with my local community in the Wiki Weekend Tirana that we will organize in December for the fourth time since there will be a wider audience. During the FOSScamp we have worked in this etherpad. And I lead three workshops one of them unplanned but the organizer were very polite to accept my request since one of the greatest problems that we faced, was that most of the information that we found was not under public/open licenses, which made it impossible to use. Also el-wikipedia had only a few info for this island. During my workshops there were 12 people participating,we created and improved 13 articles in Wikipedia and we added the geo-location and improved 84 articles. During our small wiki-expedition we were 12 people. We split in three groups with four people you can see our photos here. It's true that I didn't meet all my goals for FOSSCamp but I'm more experienced now and I have learned to set my goals in more proper way. In the next time I will do a more detailed research about all the components which will make my workshop more successful to not have unexpected surprises.

Finances

[edit]
  • I had some unexpected costs during FOSSCamp and the total amount which I spend is up to 441.56 € from 398 € which was my approved grant. I spend 45 € (round trip with bus from Tirana to Athens and Athens to Tirana), 110 € for accommodation, 40 € participating fee, 63 € (round trip with ferry from Pireaus to Syros and Syros to Pireaus) and I have asked 20€ per day 7 days but since I had some unexpected costs the total amount that I spent was 183.56 € for 7 days.

Amount left over

[edit]

There was not any left over amount of money.

Anything else

[edit]

Thanks to the Wikimedia Foundation for giving us the chance to share our knowledge and learn from the others. Also is there any need that I show you the username of people participating and the articles which we worked on because I didn't know which is the best way to do this? For now I have them to an etherpad.
