Proposed participation
[edit]I am an active volunteer to Wikimedia with experience in editing through training a attained from conferences i attended internationally. I will be creating awareness about wikipedia at the event and also take photos that will be licensed free under creative commons and be used to develop articles and create articles which are not available in wikipedia. The information about the culture of Botswana is not available in Wikipedia therefore the pictures that i will take at the event will be used to create articles during the meet up sessions with other volunteers. The Wikipedia library WPL (Wikipedia library) will be benefiting as well as the content of the country Botswana will be made available to anyone who might require it. This event is open to anyone nationally to attend, i will distribute the flyers which i have about What wikipedia is and how to be a part of Wikipedia. The Wikimedia banner will be pitched at the event with some flyers distributed around the event.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]Letlhafula is an annual thanksgiving food festival to celebrate the harvest in Botswana. The festival includes a large variety of traditional food, dance, music, games and fashion.
Goals
- As a result of my attendance at the event, there will be an increase in content of pictures from Botswana culture, dance, music(traditional dance) into the public domain for use in developing articles or staring new articles which are not available in the Wikipedia Library.
- To Recruit new contributors to Wikipedia.
Impact
- There will be more photos uploaded after the event, this is an advantage for articles which did not have photos to be developed (Stubs)
- Orange Botswana is one of our target operators for Wikipedia zero initiative, therefore they will get to understand more about Wikipedia which means it will be easy to meet and discuss about the zero initiative because they will be familiar with the projects.
