Grants:TPS/Magioladitis/Telesilla
This Wikimedia Participation Support request was funded in the fiscal year 2014-15. A report is available.
Proposed participation
[edit]I am an highly active Wikipedian and last year I gave many talks on using Wikipedia by adult educators. I came into touch with the editorial board of female focused magazine "Telesilla" and they would like me to make a short presentation about Wikipedia and how they can use it in order to write articles about women and of female interest. "Telesilla" was established more than 10 years ago but it still does not have a webpage. The editorial board holds weekly meetings in Athens. We already made a plan which includes a) Me talking about Wikipedia's mission and why they should contribute b) Tasks of interest where they could contribute or tasks which they think Wikipedia lacks at the moment c) Teaching them of how to create accounts etc. There will be two meetings one only with the editorial board and an open invitation to the subscribers of the magazine. There will be a hand on Wikipedia experience with laptops.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]As a result of my talk, everyone in the audience will become aware of why and how to use Wikipedia, what are the subjects they can contribute about. It's also a first step to get involved with female groups in order to work in my larger project to help in reducing gender gap in Wikipedia. We certainly going to create a list of wanted articles in Greek Wikipedia of female interest. I expect to see more women contributing in Wikipedia. It is also very likely that the event will be featured in their magazine. Main goal is to establish connections in order to make Grants:IEG/Why women don’t edit Wikipedia successful.
