Ada Camp
[edit]AdaCamp is an Ada Initiative event focused on increasing women’s participation in open technology and culture. AdaCamp brings together people to build community, discuss issues women have in common across open technology and culture fields, and find ways to address them. Open technology and culture includes open source software, Wikipedia and other wiki projects, open data, open government, fan/remix culture, open libraries, and more. (From the AdaCamp site.)
Proposed Participation
[edit]My participation at Ada Camp will allow me to join the discussion of open technology and culture; to meet people and share our ideas. To bring those ideas back to bear on Wikimedia Foundation projects on the gender gap and editor engagement, ie- the Teahouse. I am particularly interested in exploring the role of design with regard to women; their motivation and participation tendencies.
Goal and Expected Impact
[edit]If my participation is successful I will have met many women in different roles and projects (developed contacts) and learned new things about women in open culture. I will have discussed my own view and heard many other aspects and issues experienced by the other attendees. We will have begun to outline solutions and future projects that will inform my efforts at the Foundation.
