Grants:TPS/अभय नातू/WikiConference India 2016
This Wikimedia Participation Support request was not funded. Reasons have been communicated with the request submitter on the Discussion page.
Proposed participation
[edit]I am an active Wikipedian with prolific contribution to Marathi Wikipedia (w:mr). I am an admin and a 'crat. I have contributed close to 100,000 edits over the last 10+ years and worked extensively online and offline with other contributors in many Indic language wikipedias (hi, gu, ta, etc.) Attending this conference is a continuation of my contribution. I will be organizing a workshop on "On-wiki conflict resolution using AGF as the main tool". I'd also like to present a paper/talk on attracting editors to Indic language wiki-projects from the Indian diaspora worldwide. I will be sharing my experience, skills and expertise on Indic Wikipedias in general and Marathi Wikipedia in particular. This will have a direct positive impact the level of participation and contribution to Indic Language Wikipedias, part of the Global South group of languages.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]My attendance and proposed workshop on conflict resolution will -
- highlight a topic that surfaces often on-wiki (measurable)
- will allow participants to share their experiences, views and remedies (measureable)
- add to tools available for conflict resolution (possibly measurable)
- documenting the above will allow participants (and future readers) to handle conflicts on their home projects better, resulting in
- better editor-coordination (possibly measurable with user feedback)
- increased level of participation (measurable)
- increased morale (not easily measurable)
Budget breakdown
[edit]- Air Travel: Colorado Springs/Denver (COS/DEN) to Indian gateway airport (BOM/DEL): USD
1,45015001
* Domestic Travel rail or air: Indian gateway airport to Chandigarh: USD 1002
- Accomodation: USD 70 per night x 4 nights: USD 280
- Other travel costs: Parking, cab, etc.: $70
I understand that the preferred mode of requesting funding for an Wikimedia-sponsored event is via the event budget. I have applied for a scholarship from the event, however, WCI2k16 has limited budget for scholarships, since most participants will be travelling within India. I am requesting additional funds to support my attendance as my request to travel from the US to Chandigarh. This can probably not be funded entirely from the event scholarship budget. I intend to use funds from this grant to supplement event scholarship (if it's approved) and return any unused portion.
1Airfare adjusted to reflect current availibility
2WCI2k16 has approved my request for scholarship to cover domestic travel
Other instructions
[edit]- Yes. I'd like for the flights and hotel booked for me if an easy option is available. The event has worked with local providers for accommodation at $60-70 per night. Details are posted here.
