Outcome
[edit]- Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?
- Add a link to something new that was created as a result of your participation in this event (for example, you might link to a new tool that you and your co-participants worked on at the Hackathon, or to pages created in a workshop you participated in).
Two of my favourite sessions I visited during the preconference Hackathon
- SPARQL or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Triple
I am completely a newbie and my first query thanks to this session is this. It gave 43 entries of people born in Ukraine before year 1890 with no death date which were to be checked :) - Learning Lua
Thanks to this session I learned more about Lua and writing modules. I created Module:Phrase in ukwiki. It will be possible to replace/rewrite numerous R-phrase and S-phrase templates (used in infoboxes of articles on various chemicals) when the module is done. I have not finished it yet as there is more to learn about Wikidata to shape it properly.
I have also translated to Ukrainian 153 units on translatewiki.net which is thanks to 24 hour hacking space, where one could quietly work.
Connections
[edit]Some people I got [re]acquainted with are
- user:Frimelle / Lucie Kaffee (WMDE) who gave those two sessions at Hackathon I like best,
- user:Hindustanilanguage / Muzammiluddin who got excited about writing articles about Ukraine and we were talking on the list of them,
- user:Jopparn / John Andersson (WMSE) who told me about wakt instrument for WLM they used in Sweden,
- user:Лорд Бъмбъри / Nikola whom I worked with on Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016 project,
- user:Johan (WMF) who sees to that Tech News gets published every week and whom I was very pleased to meet in person since I consider Tech News a great thing,
- user:Adeliine / Teele who is an incarnation of inspiration of organising events,
- user:Pigsonthewing / Andy with whom I had an inspirational talk about Wikimedia though I don't remember why it was so,
- user:Ijon / Asaf (WMF) who makes me feel optimistic in spite of humans (that are a core reason of any failure) still exist,
and many others.
Some connections [may] result in collaborations with obvious Wikimedia results, other just help to stay in the movement and the latter is as important. (That's why despite our living in online era I believe Wikimania is important for people to meet and show each other in person that we are making something useful.)
Anything else
[edit]I joined Nikola Kalchev in facilitating Comparison of large international article writing and photographic contests session on WMCON Follow-Up Day.
