Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

The contest will focus on freely licensed and high quality images of Natural sites including, Nigeria game reserves, mountains, conservation areas, forest, ponds, lakes, rivers, waterfalls that will be contributed to Wikimedia Common for free usage.
  1. Images of Nigeria game reserves, mountains, conservation areas, forest, ponds, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls are lacking on Wikimedia Common. This contest would be a great opportunity to contribute high quality images of these sites to Wikimedia Common.
  2. It would help increase the awareness of Wikimedia projects
  3. The workshop under this projects will be an avenue to recruit new community members and the usage of those images on Commons
  4. It will help to introduce the basis of Wikimedia Common and Wikimedia projects to many newcomers
  5. It will help to increase the number of Nigeria-related contents on Wikimedia Common

2. How will you let people know about the contest?

We have .lunched a social media campaign for the contest and one-on-one campaign. We are also currently working on the pieces for Nigeria media that would be published in the next couple of days perhaps in the first week of the contest.

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?

We will set up a panel of jury which will consists of notable photographers, photo-journalists and experienced Wikimedians.

4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

There would be an edit-at-thon that would focus on using the images on Wikipedia.

5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
