Project Goal

- Recruit new editors from (Public and Private Institutions)
- Increase youth skills knowledge on research, gender gap and Women historian
- Improving WikiData items
- Create missing WikiData items
- Increase digital skills for young girls on linked open data
- Make uploads to Wiki commons on missing photos of women on WikiData
The campaign will have two parts: a challenge, like the WikiGap Challenge, Wiki Loves Women and Wiki Women in Red there will be a decentralised digital and in-person events via the group Wiki Hour Initiative https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Hour_Initiative in commemoration of Black History Month, International Women's Day and Girls in ICT global campaign.

[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We will organise one (1) training and (2) edit-a thon, Virtual check-ins and a contest for the editors. Edits will be tracked using a dashboard.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- The project will be announced on all social media, WhatsApp groups and each partnered organisation will announce it on their various channels. We will share it on village pump here to reach all editors locally and the Wikidata Community [2]
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- That notwithstanding, a telegram group has been created for all Ghanaian participants of the edit-a thon and further announcement will be shared via social media accordingly.
To add, we hope to use channels like radio stations and partner networks to further announce the project.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT
- User:Edapa Annie an avid contributor and would handle training and community engagement.
- User:SAgbley has over 6 years as a Wikimedian trainer. She is a GLAM advocate and very passionate about SDGs. She would lead training and also handle event planning.
- User:Patketeku is a teenager and recent Senior High School graduate who will help with youth mobilisation and ICT training.
Project Advisor/coordinator - Joy Agyepong user:Joy Agyepong is an experienced wikimedian/ environmental advocate and long time contributor who has served as an executive and has the capacity and experience to lead as the project/ Coordinator. She has managed many diverse projects successfully. An example is Women of the Wiki program on gender gap, #Wiki4Climate #Wiki4Humanrights and #Wiki4nclusion in Ghana.
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Participants have the necessary computer devices for the project as that's part of the requirements and they will be provided with data scholarships for participating in the virtual edit-a-thon since we will house 10 students per training due to Covid protocol in that region.
Also, experienced Wikipedians from our previous campaign will assist new recruits virtually.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- Participants will join both WhatsApp and Telegram group which has been created already to gather ideas and encourage new recruits. Also, a post event survey will be sent to get their needs to sustain their interest and contributions.
Additionally, participants will be redirected to other local affiliate groups depending on their region to help improve content and ensure continuity with the community at large.
7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- Yes, however, the number of participants that are going to be present physically is 10 and we will adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols. The remaining participants will join Microsoft Teams.
8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
Impact
[edit]How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events - 4 (1 training, 2 Edit -a-thon & a contest)
- Number of participants - 25
- Number of new editors - 15
- Number of WikiData items and articles created or improved - 100
- Number of repeat participants - 15
Resources
[edit]What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.
- Communication & design - Engagement time, calls, promotional materials, boosting and flyer (USD220)
- Feeding cost - This will cater for snacks and food far all the training and edit-a-thon at $200 per each event. (USD400)
- Internet for data for the all sessions -(USD100)
- Data scholarship - participants who have a need for data support. This will be approximately $10 each for an estimation of 10 participants who may not have the chance to attend the training and edit a thon in person. However, an extra $50 will be set aside to take care of any extra support for increased participation and transfer charges. (USD150)
- Jury - This comprises of cost of gift and internet support to 3 Jury members (USD300)
- Administrative expense - This will support the team for their internet/gifts (USD250)
- Awards - This will cater for certificates, gifts and special prizes for top (3) outstanding winners after the edit-a-thon and contest.(USD300)
- Transportation - This will support 4 team members and 2 teachers for their Taxi/Uber for all the physical training to and from the venue at $30 per person at each event. (USD360)
- Rental of projector - This is a standard cost for projector rental for the two months period of training. (USD100)
- Space rental and food- This will serve as an information synthesis that is the meeting of the team to synthesise information for the report. The cost here is for only securing a place and provide food for the working meeting (USD250)
- Miscellaneous - Unforeseen Bank charges on Transfers, conversion, transportation charges (USD50)
