Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Overall, we are happy about how the project went and also created a huge relationship with photographers with it. We were able to have a total of 41 photographers with two photo walks that took simultaneously in two locations to cover Lagos. Most of the photographers dont know about the Wikimedia projects prior and they were thrilled at the exposure and want more of it.
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
1000 photos | 910 photos | The target could not be fully met as most photographers haven't uploaded their images due to the bad network connectivity we had during the upload session and so most couldn't upload but promised to upload individually |
40 professional photographers and 10 experienced editors of Wikipedia | 41 photographers participated and 3 experienced editors of Wikipedia | We could not have up to 10 experienced editors as there was instability of the photowalk and upload session date due to the delay in processing the grant. |
If at least 25% of the images collected are used(~910) | 238 (27%) photos used on Wikimedia by the reporting due date | This number was calculated using the glamtool here. We are continuing to encourage people to integrate their photos in articles. |

Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- We had lot of photographers that showed up and we had to streamline to not more than 41.
- It offers the photographers opportunity to know about the Wikimedia projects.
- The project as further helped in breaking the wall of photographers contributing to Wikimedia projects in Nigeria as many are ready to contribute and look out for other phototwalk opportunities.
- The funds arrived early enough.
- The photowalk created a good level of awareness while walking on the streets with the branded shirts for the walks as people were stunned with our uniformity.
- Partnership with the Lagos state government who gave us passes to move around.
- What did not work so well?
- During the photowalk, there was heavy downpour of rain and hence restricted the movements to photograph the landmarks and even damaged some of the photographers gadgets.
- The rain downpour couple with the weather affected the network connectivity the next day as the photographers couldn't do much upload due to the poor networks as a result of the heavy rain.
- Not including the t-shirts which we had to make because of its importance.
- The change of date due to the grant processing affected the plans and made most experienced Wikipedians not to attend.
- About seven photographers that partipated in the photyowalk didnt come for the upload session due to the distance of the hall and also the stress from yesterday walk.
- What would you do differently next time?
- We would never fix a photowalk during rainy session irrespective and rather wait till its over.
- Would have also postponed the upload session till next time and not the next day when the weather will be favorable for internet connectivity.
- Will give an advance date just incase the grant couldn't be processed within the specifies date so as to include everyone.
- We will either get an accommodation to camp the photographers after the walk so all can be present or fix the upload session to after a week that everyone will be fully refreshed and hence will all be present.
