Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Most of the project's goals were exceeded. This also includes improving the quality of the already existing articles related to the pictures. Also many Nature Protected Areas of Greece were covered for first time with photos from the competition. From the organizational side, the project run smoothly based on last years experience. Generally we succeeded in increasing the number of freely licensed images of Greek nature, in raising awareness of natural heritage through the photographs uploaded during the competition, and improving the quality of the content on Wikimedia projects by providing images to existing articles. We also succeeded in raising awareness of free licences among photographers in Greece (at least for those who participated) and recruited some of them as new contributors to Wikimedia Commons. We also increased local media coverage about Wikimedia projects through national news outlets.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
    • Participation was satisfying. The jury was consisted of 4 invividuals (2 males and 2 females) and the process ran smoothly although late as everything during summer in Greece. We chose to hire a venue for the awards event in order to be in the city center and we got it at a lower price than normal. All winners got their awards.
  • What did not work so well?
  • What would you do differently next time?
    • We forgot to set in the rules that we do not accept watermarks. We remembered it for WLM.
    • We also did not have a timeframe till when someone can claim their award.
