Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?
- The contest is geographically exclusively focused on the Americas continent, and wiki-focused mostly on Wikivoyage.
- We have already organised several editions of contests focused geographically on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE Spring), Asia (Asian month) and Africa (African month). We have even done some small campaign about Antarctica. Remaining parts of Earth are the Americas, Western and Northern Europe and Oceania. So taking inspiration from the French Wikipedia we want to focus the attention of our editors to the Americas for the first time in nearly 20 years.
- The Esperanto Wikivoyage is still a rather new project - approved and moved to its own subdomain not even a 1 year ago. So for these 2 years (2021-2022) we are providing special support for it - in 2021 it has special advantages in contests (like more points for same work), in 2022 it will "only" be part of contests. During CEE Spring 2021, a very nice number of 173 articles were created in Esperanto Wikivoyage (by a new Wikivoyage editor!), putting the total article count very near to 1 000. Shortly after the kilometerstone of 1 000 articles was achieved. Encouraged by this success, we want to focus our editors on the Wikivoyage last time this year.
- As Wikivoyage has a distinct target group than other Wikimedia projects, we want to do an experiment about outreach. Esperanto organisations very often organise events, spanning from local club meetings to world-wide congresses. Such events are considered a great opportunity, as Esperanto Wikivoyage can serve very well for participants to plan their travel. But nowadays, neither events' participants nor organisers know enough about Wikivoyage. We want to change this! We want to test the possibility that events' organisers would support creation of travel material in Wikivoyage. So we will contact Esperanto organisations based in the Americas to partner with them - the organisations (in collaboration with us) would define a set of articles relevant for their events (like country, region, city, phrasebook, maybe another) and provide additional prizes for contributions to these articles. It is the first time we are trying this, so we will see how much it works in our environment. But we have already received a request to collaborate on a similar project, and our anecdotal evidence suggests that organisers would be interested.
- Despite putting a lot of focus on the Wikivoyage, the experience showed that most contributions probably will contribute to the Wikipedia. For these users we will suggest that if they want to write a biographical article, they could prefer articles about women to help close the gender gap.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- * Village Pump in Esperanto Wikipedia and Wikivoyage
- Telegram group of Wikimedia in Esperanto
- Facebook group of Esperanto Wikipedia
- mailinglist of our organisation
3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- CentralBanner (or alternatively local SiteNotices and AnnonNotices)
- contest pages in Esperanto Wikipedia and Wikivoyage
- Village Pump in Esperanto Wikipedia and Wikivoyage
- Telegram group of Wikimedia in Esperanto
- Facebook pages of Esperanto Wikipedia, Esperanto Wikivoyage, our organisation
- Facebook group of Esperanto Wikipedia
- Twitter channel of Esperanto Wikipedia, Esperanto Wikivoyage, our organisation
- mailinglists of our organisation and Esperanto Wikipedia
- event page in our website
- entry in Esperanto events website
- partners will be asked to inform in their channels
- we work to receive an auspices from VIP organisations and will ask them to inform in their channels
4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.
- The basic criterions is topic alignment, language, factographical and style quality. Articles in not full alignment with these criterions will either be disqualified or will receive only a proportional amount of points.
- Articles in Wikivoyage will receive 2x more points to spotlight this new project and invite more participation to it.
- Then the amount of points will be calculated according to the raw size of the articles in bytes.
- There will be several categories, including partners' categories. Points will be calculated for each of them separately.
- Awards are planned to be gift cards and delivered digitally.
5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?
- Not a photo contest.
6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- No in-person events or activities.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

--Radioamatoro (talk) 00:24, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

- Tiu ĉi konkurso sendube igos jamajn kontribuantojn pli aktivaj kaj venigos multajn vikimedianojn, kiuj ankoraŭ ne ekkontribuis al Vikivojaĝo. Canicjusz (talk) 11:53, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
