CCCD Women & Craft Editathon Rapid Grant
Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Overall, yes we met our goals for this event, attendance was a little less then we had hoped, however all who attended were very engaged. One of the main goals of the even was to increase the number of women who felt comfortable editing on Wikipedia, and of the 15 in attendance 13 were women and at least three or four will continue to edit Wikipedia on their own. Goal: 25 Actual: 15
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
25 in attendance | 15 in attendance | More marketing and school outreach was needed. |
Train women to feel comfortable editing on Wikipedia | Yes | Yes, all in attendance gained a better understanding of how to edit and I think several will continue to edit wikipedia on their own. |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well? Engaging with the University of North Carolina, Asheville for an intern to research potential women in craft was very successful. We had ample resources on hand for people to do research and add content. It was also great to have a Wiki-expert on hand to answer questions.
- What did not work so well? More social media and online marketing should have been done. Marketing the door prizes in advance would have also been beneficial.
- What would you do differently next time? Next time I would have a series of pre-training sessions, perhaps in classrooms at area universities or in libraries so people would have come to the editathon already knowing the basics of how to edit and been able to dive right in to content editing at the editathon.
