Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes. It met all the proposed goals.

We managed to develop partnerships with three important cultural institutions: Goethe Institute, University from Târgu Mureș and History Faculty of the University Babeș-Bolyai, from Cluj - in Romania - and Metropolitan Library from Chișinău, Republic of Moldova .

A total number of 58 new editors, edited 416 articles and created 164 new articles on Romanian Wikipedia. Subsequently, a number of 110 images were uploaded to Commons.

The project contributed to the alleviation of the gender gap, on Romanian Wikipedia. 33 (56.9%) of the new editors were female editors .

Outcome

[edit]

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
- Raise awareness about Wikimedia projects, in general, and WMROMD projects, in special
- Persuading the Academic institutions and associations about the value in training their members to improve Wikipedia articles related to the discipline
- Increasing the level of integration and acceptance of Romanian Wikipedia in the local cultural and scientific communities
Achieved. We managed to develop common activities with 4 important institutions from two countries: Goethe Institute, University from Târgu Mureș, University Babeș-Bolyai, from Cluj and Metropolitan Library from Chișinău.

At each event and location there were delivered special dedicated presentations, both for the Wikimedia projects and for WMROMD projects.

As a result, these institutions agree to continue the partnership with WMROMD during 2020, but, unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to postpone them to the second part of 2020 and 2021.

- Encouraging potential contributors to participate and recruiting new editors
- Developing skills for existing editors
Achieved. A total number of 68 new editors participated in the project:
Creating or improving a significant numbers of articles related to this very important event in the history of Romania Achieved. During the project, we reach the next milestonesː
  • 416 articles edited
  • 164 new articles created on Romanian Wikipedia
  • 110 images uploaded to Commons
Demonstrating and learning how collective editing works Achieved. The editing process was focused on an integrated collaborative work, with the students editing the article, the teacher overseeing and assigning task and the Wikipedia facilitator providing the technical guidance.
Providing quality training and support for the new editors Achieved. The course started with an online ”train the trainers” course, in which a number of willing students learned the basic editing techniques to the level that they were able to assist the teachers and the Wikipedia facilitator in learning the other students. The specialized support for editors were provided directly and permanently by the Wikipedia facilitator.
Developing a friendly and collaborative work environment Achieved. Most of the students appreciated this project and the good atmosphere during the editing process.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
    • Most of the things worked according to plan:
      1. proper audience, both in number and quality
      2. good cooperation and support from the institutions
      3. openness and receptivity for Wikimedia and WMROMD projects
  • What did not work so well?
    • I have nothing significant to mention at this section
  • What would you do differently next time?
