Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

At the beginning of the contest even till the end people were really eager to be part of it; in their response messages they never had that opportunity to be part of content research on Wikipedia, even as Content Creators. That was the expected outcome and it seemed to work perfectly. Also there was curiosity as so many contestants really wanted to know about Wikipedia and contributions and almost all of the participants showed readiness to be part of subsequent Wikipedia editing training

  • What did not work so well?

Most contestants were not able to carry out the step 1 of the contest which is the entry level of the contest and the the most important step. This reduced the number of contestants drastically. Their reason were;

  1. They have not done any research using Wikipedia before.
  2. They don't know how to reference a source like Wikipedia.
  3. They don't know a resource Library like Wikipedia exist.

Also, Some contestants wanted to use Facebook because they don't have Instagram accounts and because there was no provision for that, they could not participate.

  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. I will create a detailed step by step how to use video or graphics so that contestants who do not have the slightest idea of of how this works can have equal Opportunities.
  2. I will give opportunity for Wikipedia training on how to contribute especially since Wikipedia is designed to serve as a place where credible information is gotten, the users need to know how they can contribute.
  3. I will give opportunity to Facebook users who don't have Instagram account to participate on Facebook, choosing their platform of choice will be optional in order to get more people involved in the contest.
