Project Plan

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

We are determined to change Port Harcourt and give it a new face during the course of this Festival

We are mainly looking at Monuments and Funny/Humor moments. We will also prioritize Night Life and Ancient Landmarks as well as the people and their culture.

This project is very very important to us as a community.

We've long suffered a lack of representation on the web, and most of the media collateral available online are mostly negative. For example: The Wikipedia article on Port Harcourt is still showing the pictures of the former Government House which has long been replaced, even Google can't seem to get it right. They ain't just enough pictures of us out there.

We want to change that through the help of WikiMedia Commons 100% of the medias will be uploaded to Commons

2. How will you let people know about the contest?

Port Harcourt has quite a number of media house, most of which would be interested in sponsoring the 'non-profit Festival'

Plus, we would be collaborating with a lot of Community Meetups and User Groups -- including the WikiMedia UG Nigeria -- to spread the word

Another vital method is: Word of Mouth. I will inform all Wikimedian I know of (and potential ones too), while o make sure they are also telling their friends.

We would also consider premium advertising too.

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes? We intend to ask for some volunteers to participate as Judges.

But Most Importantly, we are hoping to invite some Dignitaries and Stake Holders in the community especially in the Tech/Media sphere to help judge.

We intend to award 'prices' to the top three persons alongside Best Photo and Best Video prizes.

The measure would be based on how many 'Quality contents' participants are able to gather.

4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

It's a Festival! Different groups of people will be at different strategic location with an appointed leader.

Everyone is free to get independent and get some inspiration out of the group, but we all meet at one location later on to share our experience and portfolio.

After the Photo walk/fest we intend to organize an edit-a-thon to further improve Wikimedia and also make good use of the photos.

5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

We intend to use this contest as a good foundation for a WikiMedia User Group in Port Harcourt and the entire w:Niger Delta states of w:Nigeria

The edit-a-thon and "Wikimedia Niger Delta" will be applied for after this contest has been approved. As it is the starting point of both.

The grantee has organized and been involved in organizing numerous Open Sourced events and meetups and is well capable to carry on the task.

PS: The proposal given here is subject to contribution as long as it tally with WikiMedia's mission and the Contest's original aim

PPS: This is not really like a BIG festival. NO, although its festival-like, the main reason for festival appearing in the name is for marketing purposes. Most people in Port Harcourt loves festivals
