[edit]We had 4 trips visiting the local communities and have conversation with the local teachers, the elders, and the experienced speakers. We did collected some audio resources. Among them, 3 files are uploaded on Wikimedia Commons.
Based on the data we've collected, we had two meetings doing the review of the expressions and the vocabulary.

Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
5~10 new contributors on Wikipedia Paiwan | Yes, we've encouraged at least 10 users to create their accounts. | During our visits to the community and the online activities, we've recruited more than 10 Paiwan speakers to participate in Wiki projects of Paiwan. However, there are only a few among of these new users stay active like Paukuljelje. |
50 new articles created on Wikipedia Paiwan | Yes, at least 50 new articles are created on Wikipedia Paiwan. Now we have more than 250 articles. | There are 1 ~ 4 editathons held each month from February 2022. Please check the schedule of meetups on our meta page. |
500 new words added on Wiktionary Paiwan (Incubator) | No, there are only 78 pages created on Wikitionary Paiwan. | Wiktionary edit-a-thons, such as Wiktionary Edit-a-thon, are held to introduce Wiktionary Paiwan to the community. Please check this page to see all Paiwan vocabularies on Wiktionary Paiwan now. |
500 new Paiwan lexemes created on Wikidata | No, we've not done this. There is still only 195 lexemes of Paiwan language on Wikidata. | Please see this page to overview the Paiwan lexemes from Wikidata. The process of adding lexemes on Wikidata seems to be a bit more complicated to the Paiwan users (some of them are aged) compared to the Wiktionary on the Incubator. Also, the pandemic of COVID-19 turned serious again early this year, so some of the workshops took place only online. This might be difficult for the participants to follow the operations on Wikidata. We will look forward for more in-person activities to promote Wikidata use to the Paiwan wiki contributors. |
4 audio/video files uploaded on Wikimedia Commons | No, only 3 audio files are uploaded. | The doucments in Paiwan language, such as kinavangulj, are uploaded on Paiwan Wikisource under the Category of pinayuanan.
3 audio files are uploaded on Wikimedia Commons including milingan ni cugan, milingan a marecekelj, and papedjeli ti kama i vikar. |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The field works really encourage the participation of our members. We can see they are more interested to reach out to the community and collect the stories and vocabularies. Also, after the trip, we had two meetings talking about the data we've collected. Also, in this project, we've invited some experience speakers to take part in the discussion. Even though they have not really started to edit on any wiki projects, they did contribute orally with their speech. The other users can get the knowledge or expression which can be used in the articles later.
- What did not work so well?
During the project, we found that we still need more workshop to bring our participants to get used to the process of editing. For example, we did have some editathons, but the edits increase little after the activity.
- What would you do differently next time?
We are thinking about to keep focusing on the field work which is intereting to our participants. And maybe we will think about holding a contest to encourage more edits after the field work.
