Naijá (also known as pidgin English) is a language widely spoken in Nigeria and one of the most popular languages. The BBC News Currently exists in Naijá.

According to BBC News, up to 75 million people in Nigeria alone speaks this language- about half the population. Although, there are three major local languages in Nigeria with Wikimedia affiliates; Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. Yet, Pidgin English is the only unified language among the Nigerians and its neighbourhood West African countries. It is known as the Lingua Franca of the West African countries.

Yesterday, 4th of October 2021, members of the Wikimedia communities in Nigeria decided to start a community that will promote, and develop the Naijá Wikipedia. Over 30 experienced members joined the group within one day of its public announcement.
