Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes, we have successfully meet all of our mentioned goals of this project. The project went long because of the COVID-19 pandemic and we are delayed to submit the final project report. We are quite happy that we have started our outreach events again. We met around 200 students of the Kshitiz Educational Foundation, Rajbiraj, and selected the interested participants to train them about the basics of Wikipedia. The support and participation of the students were really satisfactory because more than 20 to 25 students showed their interest to learn about the basics of Wikipedia and its mechanism to edit in their own language. We have also circulated our message to previously trained students in social media groups to participate in the Women Edit-a-thon 2021.

Maithili Wikimedians User Group/Events/Women Edit-a-thon 2021

[edit]

Wiki Women Edit-a-thon 2021' is an online Edit-a-thon competition organized on Maithili Wikipedia on the occasion of International Women's Day 2021. The competition was organized from March 7, 2021 to March 21, 2021. The main aim of the competition is to create articles about notable women on Maithili Wikipedia as well as to address the content gaps. Maithili Wikimedians is organizing Women Edit-a-thon annually since 2015 to create locally relevant and high-quality content about notable Women's in Maithili Wikipedia. This year we have prepared a list of 50 notable Nepalese women, whose articles do not exist in Maithili Wikipedia. The list is made with the help of Wikidata query services. We have chosen notable Nepalese women from different backgrounds, which include sports, politics, social service, business, economy, arts, music, and the entertainment industry.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Obviously, Teamwork and participation, and the support of students worked well.

  • What did not work so well?

Due to the upcoming academic exam of college students, many of the students missed participating in our Basic Wikipedia Training event.

  • What would you do differently next time?

I am planning to focus on the Orientation class and then a Training session. It seems really a good idea to engage the students and it also helps us to know their interest.

Due to the pandemic outbreak, this project was delayed for a year but we have managed to complete it lastly. We didn't act according to our plan but we are satisfied with the way participants participated in the online and offline event.
