Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes we have achieved our goals and we are also satisfied with the progress of the whole project. This project was a real challenge for us because it is the first time that Mali participates and we managed to upload nearly 300 photos. We are really happy and more motivated
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Create awareness about the Wikimedia movement and its activities through participation to the c:Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2017 photo contest. | the project was set up in Mali for the first time and many photographers participated. | First, the wiki loves africa project was launched with the project wikichallenge schools of Africa on October 12, 2017 at the school Place de la Republique in Bamako.
Then we launched a call for participation and a dozen photographers have price share. Then we made the selection of the 3 best photos in Mali that received their prize at the Bamako Manuscripts Fair on March 9th, 10th and 11th, 2018 at the National Library of Bamako. |
First, the participation of Mali in wiki loves africa
Then the Malian photographers were the target of the project |
our objectives have been reached since we have involved a dozen Malian photographers who have price photos and upload 298 precisely | so we are proud and happy to have participated in wiki loves africa 2017 |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
We then changed our strategy so that Mali could propose a lot of photos. So we appeal to amateur photographers. In Mali there are photo kits that take wedding photos on Sundays, Saturdays, Thursdays during civil and religious weddings. We were able to have 8 young amateur photographers who came to complete the list of photographers of specialized schools like the multimedia conservatory Balla Fasseké of Bamako. So everything worked. And having launched the wiki loves africa with another project wikichallenge schools in Africa allowed to give a still great echo to the photo contest.
- What did not work so well?
Already very few Malian knew about the wiki loves africa contest. And this is the first difficulty that has been traced by passing the inofmration to Malian photographers and professionals. Despite this we find that the mobilization of the Malian photographers was not satisfactory
- What would you do differently next time?
We had a lot of experience this time and we know that next time we will improve further. We will no longer communicate next time, involve the 3 best Malian award-winning photographers so that they carry the projects to their friends photographers and find for example a godfather or godmother And above all, keep the awards ceremony at the Bamako Manuscript Fair, which is a big event where the project will have a very high visibility.

Anything else
[edit]Anything else you want to share about your project? yes it is the statuettes ciwara that we give as price. the ciwara in the middle tradition Bamanan (Malian) is given as a reward to the best farmers Ci = Peasant, farmer and Wara = Lion or strong man therefore the best peasant. And the notion of work, bravery and reward follows the ciwara in all sectors of activity in Mali.
