Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The involvement of many Nigerian lawyers in the project through our partnership with the Nigeria Bar Association. Although many of the lawyers were not happy with the poor visibility of the Nigerian laws on Wikipedia and its sister projects, they want to be associated with creating their records on Wikipedia. They feel there is a huge aspect of the Nigerian laws to bring onboard Wikipedia. Also, our partnership with the Nigeria Bar Association presents a good platform to meet with the stakeholders in legal issues in Nigeria.
- What did not work so well?
- The event clashed with the court session and thereby affected the participation of the interested lawyers who wished it had held between July and August when the court observes it's annual vacation as they had to attend court sittings first before coming for the training very late in the day.
- We had IP range block of many of the participants and prevented them from registering and opening their accounts and some others that registered were blocked.
- Internet problems prevented some that successfully created their accounts from editing along with the trainers.
- Many of the articles they created are still in draft and it's discouraging them from creating more.
- What would you do differently next time?
- Nigeria Lawyers do observe annual vacation between July and August, this could be a good time to organize our next event.
- Since many of our participants contribute in English language , we are considering a discussion with the English wikimedian community that can help to identify us when we are having an ongoing training.
