Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? This contest has brought us some new interesting users and are already engaged in our project and social discussions group.
  • What did not work so well? This contest solely aims to improve the quality of wikipedia pages with files and also to improve the skills of existing editors as well as new recruit editors. At the beginning some new users started addition of photos anyhow without proper rendering and unrelated to the pages which is against what we have told them during trainings, so we had to keep cautioning them and following their contributions and letting them when ever they went otherwise.
  • What would you do differently next time?

In case of a future contest similar to this, we will try to adopt different approach especially the contest prizes will be divided into two categories for new users and old ones in order to encourage more participating.

Finances

[edit]

Grant funds spent

[edit]

Please describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.

All grant funds where spent according to the budgeted expenses although the training we did was different from the one we planned, I initiately wanted to do online vitual trainings like 3 or 4 times but the participants complaints make us change style. What we did was, we made used of our whatsapp platform and did some toturials by recording our screens and share with the participants how to register, sign, about commons, how search files, how to insert them on articles etc, and if they ask questions we respond them this way has really worked well for us and even made two of our new recruit users to went on and win prizes 3rd and 5th. This process made us used less data as well, a reason we have some remaining funds for data subscription.

Item Description Number of Events Total NGN Total USD Comment

Graphics Design of digital fliers for online social media campaign, adverts and logistics. 85,140 220 All amount was spent for fliers/adverts 60,000 and 25,140 for logistics

TOTAL 377,650 970
amount requested 377,650 970

Remaining funds

[edit]

Do you have any remaining grant funds?

Remaining funds have been used or will be used for other approved mission-aligned activities. This use has been requested in writing and approved by WMF.

Yes! As explained earlier, some of the data funds were not spent 20,000 and there's an increment of 10,000 from the funds that wasn't on our budget. So we have 30,000 naira remaining. Yes! I would like to use the remaining funds to organize a follow up training in order to explore our new recruits on other ways of editing because our last toturials only focused on inserting files on articles since the motivation of them registering was to participate in the contest.
