[edit]

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
  • We experienced Wikipedians in Japan are planning a one-day editathon focused on adding and improving articles about historical things in Yamanashi, Japan.
  • 7 editors edited two local themes of Yamanashi that was announced on the day. (But, Two editors knew the themes. They did not participate in the theme selection. )
  • And, they fieldworked the themes.
  • 21 viewers viewed the process.
  • We shared a this event recording on twitter. "General", "A group", "B group"," in English".
  • Two new articles were added onto Wikipedia in Japanese. 謝恩碑(甲府市) is 17,078 bytes. 山梨県庁舎別館(旧本館)及び県議会議事堂 is 19,000 bytes. (as of 2017/07/23 18:00 asia/Tokyo)
  • This was the first event for Japanese Wikipedia where collaborated for the edit off-line. The editors and viewers have seen the editing process each other. We compared to our editing process. We have found an extensive literature survey, different approach and viewpoint from their editing process. We were able to refer to our editing skills.
  • As for the authors, we think that you can check our writing style and help writing in the future by knowing the difference of each writing styles. As for the viewer, we could see the writing process in parallel by post-Twitter summary, photographs and so on. We were able to feel the skill of skilled Wikipedians about the extent of data collection and surveys up to detailed descriptions, the structure composition of articles and so on immediately appear. In the Yamanashi Prefectural Library, which was the venue, the librarian can ascertain the significance of collecting and disseminating regional materials again.
  • We will invite rookie editors and general public visiting Yamanashi Prefectural Library to see the editathon.
  • We gave a poster presentation. We made 4 posters, and Yamanashi Pref Library made 2 posters.
  • The posters were viewed 15 people in the library. And, many books were used to make articles "地方病 (日本住血吸虫症)" were exhibited. poster and Exhibition Viewers seems to have felt an importance of gathering and preserving regional materials in Library.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
    • We used Facebook group for the event planning. The Facebook group was convenient for collaboration with people living in remote areas. Also, We recorded on Twitter. In Togetter, many related Tweets could be combined into one address. As a result, Tweet can be referred to as a record.
  • What did not work so well?
    • We were planning an event jointly, but communication sometimes did not go well.
  • What would you do differently next time?
    • I would like to hold more meetings offline.
