Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? We managed to recruit new Wikipedia users and also engage and continue to grow with existing editors, and this was one of our primary goals for the competition. We were also able to harness a good community of participants from Lamu county; and someone to represent the Kenyan Wikimedia community from there.
Outcome
[edit]Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
900 Images used on Wikimedia Commons | 330 images | there is still a lot of restriction of movement in Kenya due to the pandemic hence participants are more restricted in terms of accessibility of potential venues for photos to be taken. |
25 participants | 18 participants that reached out via various channels | due to the ongoing pandemic, a lot of people are still reluctant to take part in such activities. |
Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well? We received a large amount of images , more than what we expected and this was quite pleasing to the team.
- What did not work so well? Since we were running two competitions at once, WLF and WLA, we had to come up with a strategy in order to avoid confusion and hence ended up making certain payments and reimbursements a bit late.
- What would you do differently next time?
We will make payments as soon as a cost is incurred, especially when more than one event is running concurrently.
We will also strive to get more out of county representatives who can help coordinate activities in their respective counties.
