Project Plan

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are planning two trainings, two edit-a-thon and one meet-up. This will include workshops, edit-a-thon and meet-ups.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The project has been publicized at the Nigerian user Group Talk page (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria#Equity_Watch_Initiative_Art_%2BFeminism_Wikipedia_training%2C_edit-a-thon_and_meetup_2022). It has also been publicized on Equity Watch Initiative website (https://equitywatchinitiative.org/), Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/913688539104576?_rdc=1&_rdr), WhatsApp platforms, Instagram (equitywatchwatch) and Twitter (@Equity_Watch1)

. 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Our Executive Director is a Senior Lecturer in the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) where our Organization is located, she interfaces with Post graduate students a lot because she teach and supervise a whole lot of them. We will leverage on her class room engagements, Post graduate seminar programs, her supervisee WhatsApp platform to pass the information. We shall also use Wiki space, Equity Watch Initiative WhatsApp platform, Twitter handle, Instagram to circulate the information. Some of our members also interact and relate a lot with colleagues who interfaces with Post graduate students in one way or the other, and we will circulate the information through such medium. E-WIN has established a good working relationship with both the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka where we are located and the University at large. With the permission of the Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, we shall make the announcement through our faculty WhatsApp platform given that majority of the young academics are also post graduate student. We shall equally leverage the Lion FM (University radio station situated in UNN to make announcements regarding the events.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

Yes, we have experienced Wikimedians to help in the training workshops and edit-a-thon activities. Ngozi User: Ngozi osadebe is a member of Equity Watch Initiative and has volunteered to help alongside Ezinne NjokuUser: Ezinne Njokuand Beatrice Ewa User: Beatrice Ewa . And the experience of our Director User:Chiemezie Atama as a researcher and reviewer will play a huge role.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Our NGO is domiciled in University of Nigeria, Nsukka and we have gotten permission to use Nnamdi Azikiwe Library Computer Laboratory which has the capacity to seat 250 people at a go at a subsidized rate. Thus this facility will help us in training participants to contribute high quality contents. Our prospective participants are Postgraduate students who have been involved in research. Training this group of participants to contribute high quality content will not be an issue given their expertise in research. Most of them have been involved in Equity Watch Initiative intervention programs on gender related issues.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will leverage on our online platforms to engage participants after the event(s). Apart from Equity Watch Initiative WhatsApp platform, we will create a platform for participants to follow up on them to ensure they continue to interface with Wikipedia. Through the WhatsApp group participants will receive notification for Meet-ups and subsequent events. We shall use the platform to encourage participants about information sharing. Pictures and videos from the events will be shared through Commons, Wikipedia free repository of free use images, sounds and other media. The photos and videos will also be uploaded on our Facebook page, website, Instagram and WhatsApp groups

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GWdqISVLtb6y0k7K9RaF7lsJmA9Xvc6TrPuT8zSomvc/edit#gid=366656893

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

It has been established that achieving gender equality is central to development. However, this can only happen when both males and females are mobilized for feminist actions. Thus, involving males and females in this type of training as well as encouraging them to edit Art + Feminism content on Wikipedia would be a sure way of mobilizing them for feminist actions. These will reduce the gender gap in Wikipedia and promote gender equality.

Impact

[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 5 (Two trainings, two edit-athons and one in-person meetup)
  2. Number of participants 30
  3. Number of new editors 30
  4. Number of of articles created or improved 30
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) 25

Resources

[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

The project will be organized by Equity Watch Initiative [E-WIN], a nongovernmental organization that is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. E-WIN is a registered organization that is domiciled in University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Majority of her members are academic staff of UNN who are mostly experienced researchers and reviewers and who posses the capacity for this training. We have experienced Wikipedia’s like Prof. Ngozi Osadebe and Ezinne Njoku who are readily available to help us. Electric power supply and internet network is available in the University where our organization is based, however, we would make alternative arrangements because it is mostly unreliable. For the Nnamdi Azikiwe computer laboratory, there is stand by generator but it will require diesel. We already secured the approval of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library Art + Feminism Edit-a-thon group to use their projector machine and screen and public address system.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.
