Enlightening talk: OSM and Wikidata
The idea is to begin a series of enlightning talks on topics that require some kind of more sophisticated and detailed knowledge about Wikimedia projects, data bases etc. Just like this one: OSM and Wikidata! The talks will be open for the community, but we will also invite strategic people to be part of the event. The idea is to identify and try to find new approaches towards a more solid and robust OpenStreetMap and Wikidata database synergy.

Project Goal

[edit]

Our goals are mainly to increase skills for existing editors, but obivously both other goals (to recruit new editors and to improve content) may be a possible target

Project Plan

Activities

[edit]

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings? We are planning to do our first enlightning talk on OSM and Wikidata. Such event will help us to understand properly both projects synergy points, allowing us to promote future events (such Wikidata editathons or mapathons) in a way that both projects can grow supporting one each other.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions. Using our blog, the Village Pump and social networks.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Sure. Most of our usergroup members are very experienced users. I am leading this event I and... well, I am little bit experienced on this. :D

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them? As I wrote above, the talk will be open for the community, but we will also invite strategic people to be part of the event. The idea is to identify and try to find new approaches towards a more solid and robust OpenStreetMap and Wikidata database synergy. So, its a talk focused on a more technical area, and just like a "hackathon", we expect that most participants have skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)? I am part of the OpenStreetMap Brazilian community. Its easier to engage participants when you are part the community.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact

[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: 01 at moment
  2. Number of participants: 10 - 20
  3. Number of new editors: 05
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: We will be focused on OSM and Wikidata items
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)

Resources

[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding). We have the skills needed to approach the problem, community member interest to join a enlighting talk and the joy to spread the our understanding and answers to everyone.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount. A place to meet, some food and promotional material.

Item / Description Total cost (US$) Notes
Place of the event USD 180,00
Food USD 150,00
Promotional material USD 70,00

As we have a small amount of money of a supporter, we ask for this grant the total amount of USD 350,00, despite the fact of the total amount for event will be USD 400,00.

  • Joalpe (talk) 20:30, 18 May 2017 (UTC). Great idea. I have contacted Mike Peel to see if he'd be available for a Wikidata workshop. I know he's been very involved in looking at how edits on Wikidata can lead to good contributions on Wikipedia in English, and I believe we could try this and other features on Wikipedia in Portuguese.
