Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- The campaign was able to create more awareness about Wikipedia and increased more active participation.
- Even when the contest was over, the momentum was high as lot of participants don't want it to be over.
- Some of the participants were integrated into the Wikimedia Nigeria usergroup community as they started contributing to Wikipedia aswell.
- The Instagram page which was created freshly received huge number of followership in just few days of the contest with over 2000 followers and the followers still remained intact.
- Going into the street of Lagos for the interview also was very fruitful as participants were so eager to talk about their adventures of Wikipedia thereby creating much awareness.
- The idea of gifting each participant a branded Wikipedia Merchandise during the street interview proved really useful and productive
- What did not work so well?
- Some of the participants devised a method to use "fake likes" to win which was later exposed and they were disqualified eventually.
- Some clips from the Lagos street interview were damaged and so couldnt be published.
- The android phone given to the winners seems too small or ideal for the contest even though it was useful for the contest but an higher version would have been better.
- What would you do differently next time?
- Make sure that the winners wont be judged by only likes alone, also quality and also use various vetting means to disqualify fake likes participants.
- Ensure that the clips are kept in a separate hard drive which will be procured for the project only.
- Will ensure the budget for the winning phones is significant next time.
