Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]- What is the purpose of the meeting and why is it important to your community?
- This grant proposal covers several events to which members of Wikimedia Portugal have been invited to and workshops we are organizing in relation to a GLAM partnership currently underway with the National Library of Portugal.
- Wikimedia España has invited us to take part of several events so that we can exchange experiences, better know each other, and discuss future mutually beneficial common projects. This includes two volunteers to take part in Wiki Takes Zamora, a photo-walk to ensure coverage of all municipalities in Zamora.
- We are organizing events to celebrate the 6th anniversary of Wikidata, in collaboration with other Portuguese groups with common interests such as open data.
- Finally, we are co-organizing the 2018 edition of the Wikipedia Asia Month in the Portuguese Wikipedia, and we would like to support it with a prize for the winner, since experience shows that even a smal prize often has dramatic effects in the levels of community engagement.
The activities proposed are crucial for the development of activities in Portugal, allowing us to contact potential new editors, bring volunteers from Portugal and Spain closer together, which in turn will allow for the development of future collaborative efforts.
- If applicable, what benefits have you seen from doing this kind of meeting in the past?
- How will you let participants know about the meeting?
- We will announce the public events through the Wikimedia Portugal mailing list and our social network accounts, the National Library will also advertise the event through their internal channels, and the Wikidata days will be advertised together with the co-organizers.
- How will you keep participants engaged after the meeting is over?
- We will continue engaging with Wikimedia España in view to organize future events and continue to learn from their experience. The GLAM project with the National Library will continue as pictures are uploaded to Commons and metadata to Wikidata.
- Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
Impact
[edit]Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.
As these activities are quite different from each other, their impact will be measured independently, but they all share a common purpose to revitalize the Portuguese chapter. Impact will be measured mostly by new activities the next year, the successful continuation of the partnerships with the National Library, and by the transferable skills Ana will learn through contact with members from Wikimedia España and by participating in her events. On the other hand the events surrounding the anniversary of Wikidata will try to bring new editors to Wikidata, and establish lasting partnerships with groups with interest in open data.

[edit]- 23-28 November 2018
WMPT is helping the organization and being part of the second edition of the Free Software Party - Moita 2018, which includes the first Ubuntu Congress in Portugal. The event will take two and half days, and we’re planning to also celebrate the 6th wikidata birthday there. We’ll have a stand, participate on the conferences / debates and probably have a place for workshops / training. It’ll also be an opportunity to set ties with other FOSS community members and associations. Since a number of Wikimedians involved in the National Library (BNP) GLAM will be in Lisbon, a GLAM event is bound to happen at BNP in a third and fourth day after the Moita FOSS event. It includes a first day dedicated to Wikidata workshops and hackatons, and a second day of GLAM conferences and practical GLAM workshops.

Endorsements
[edit]- By strengthening our partnership with Wikipedia Portugal, BNP is taking the next steps to share the data of our bibliographic information systems to the world of semantic web, thus contributing to reinforce the presence of Portuguese cultural content on the web. This is a very much necessary cooperation. Miguelmimosocorreia (talk) 15:27, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- These are key activities to the rebirth of an active and healthy local community. Alchimista (talk) 22:07, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
- This series of events will be crucial to start to revitalize the Portuguese communities. GoEThe (talk) 22:07, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
- This is a very useful initiative to increase awareness about Wikipedia in Portugal. Hipersyl (talk) 22:07, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
- Strong support I am very impressed by all this. Wikimedia Portugal has reached a new maturity level. Congratulations to everyone who is involved. Particularly, the initiative with the BNP --which could lead to over 30,000 contributions to Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata very shortly-- is probably something the global community should pay close attention to. Best of luck! --Joalpe (talk) 00:09, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- These are all activities with great potential to strengthen partnerships with third-party entities, and to attract individual contributors to the Portuguese Wikimedia community. --Waldir (talk) 11:22, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
