Project Goal

[edit]

This event is looking to gather both new and old Wikipedia editors to improve five articles on sexuality, health, wealth, safety and spirituality of women in Ghana as part of the 2017 Art+Feminism campaign.

Project Plan

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

A four-hour workshop will be organized.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

The final invite can be found on the mailinglist here. Our Facebook & Twitter page has posts as well.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

User Sandiooses will lead the event.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Each participant will be required to bring a laptop or tablet to edit. This has been stated as a requirement to participate in the event.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

New participants are usually allowed to join the Wikimedia Ghana Usergroup and/or join mailing list and a whatsapp group. When they are on there, allong with old members we share from time to time what is happening within Wikimedia so they can continue to learn. We allow them to volunteer for events and even hold some themselves. Our group in recent times have wiki activities almost every month so people don't get bored. We also allow people to ask for editing help if need be. Trainer also assigns articles to to people in the outreach dashboard even after event is over.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

In order to remove the problem of limits on Wikipedia accounts created at an event (as captured in the learning points of my previous grant application), I requested to be given temporary rights to create accounts for people. I have been given the rights so hopefully I won't have any problems. It's been granted here.
