Project Goal

- Recruit new editors
- Increase skills for existing editors
- Add or improve content
- Recruit new editors, particularly women, LGBTQ individuals, people of color within the academic community of University of Florida.
- Increase skills for existing editors.
- Add or improve content on art by women, LGBTQ individuals and artists of color.
- Integrate the Edit-a-thon into spring courses across academic disciplines
Project Plan

[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- This will be a single, all-day edit-a-thon. Many student participants will do advance work in their courses.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- We have done direct outreach to faculty in African American Studies, Art History, English, Museum Studies, and Women's Studies. Our outreach list to the community is through existing organizations that focus on art and intersecting with , LGBTQ+ people and people of color.
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- Yes, the event is led by Wikimedia editors with experience. We have an excellent understanding of best practices; a good understanding of editing; and modest experience editing entries.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Participant will bring their own laptop computers and will have access to robust wi-fi. We have a range of resources on Wikipedia editing and on artists. Resources include art and art history books; access to robust scholarly resources on artists; lists of artists to edit; editing cheat sheets in English and Spanish. We will provide group training and one-on-one guidance.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will conduct a survey to assess participant experience after the event.
6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This will be our 5th annual edit-a-thon. There is already tremendous interest from faculty, so we expect robust attendance.
Impact
[edit]How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events - 1
- Number of participants - 50
- Number of new editors - 20
- Number of of articles created or improved - 25
- Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) - 1
Resources
[edit]What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- 2-3 facilitators, with varying levels of Wikipedia literacy, who have planned, organized, and executed the same event since 2016 will ensure that attendees feel welcomed and supported. We will have a large space that is easily accessible by all, furnished with tables, chairs, outlets, power cables, surge protectors and robust wifi. Research resources will include books and journal articles on women, LGBTQ+ identified and racially and ethnically diverse artists.
