Grants:Project/Rapid/Alexfope/New West Africa articles
Project Goal
[edit]Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".
- This is a project to improve science and West Africa related content on English Wikipedia. The goal is to increase French speaking West Africa history subject matters, science (botany and agriculture) and history related contents . My goal is 250 new articles created at the minimum of start level. Improvement to existing articles is a secondary goal if better sources are found. Another goal is to complement the existing images of Nigeria on wikipedia.
- There are two major goals improving science and agriculture related content and also West African history, there are sources available for the former which can be obtained with access to the internet, while I plan to dive deeper to research the latter. The latter is dependent on the quality and availability of source materials at the libraries. From the libraries, I can get a bibliography or foundation for further research.
Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?
- I plan to make at least 15 trips to a minimum of three libraries. Access to library archives is the main priority, secondly, access to library materials. Access to library archives will include meetings with librarians.
- In a different clime, a grant may not be needed but I am new to editing Wikipedia articles in Nigeria and I noticed that working on research takes a lot of data, time and planning. I plan to use part of my request to buy about one TB data for three months thereby if I do not get enough access to closed off materials there are materials from those universities available online (thesis/papers) that I could still work on. Also hope to develop relationships with the institutions.
How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?
- The Wikimedia User Group Nigeria was notified.notification
What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?
- Hopefully get more information and knowledge out there
Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- I am not going to run events but plan on meeting with some people. Overall, meetings will be limited to less than three people.
