Project idea
[edit]WikiJournal — international, independent, multi-thematic and multi-lingual online journal. The main purpose of the journal is free publishing articles, research works on a variety of topics by journalists, researchers and scientists as well as developing of free, independent journalism all over the world.
What is the problem you're trying to solve?
[edit]- To organize Legally incorporated non-profit organization for WikiJournal.org
- To cover current technical expenses (domain name + hosting)
- To involve authors, journalists to publish personal articles.
What is your solution to this problem?
[edit]For the problem you identified in the previous section, briefly describe your how you would like to address this problem.
We recognize that there are many ways to solve a problem. We’d like to understand why you chose this particular solution, and why you think it is worth pursuing.
Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
- To organize Legally incorporated company - this procedure requires some legal steps to register the company.
- To prepare WikiJournal for applying as Wikimedia sister project - the main idea of the project to go along with Wikimedia Foundation to provide free information for internet users as well as allow everyone to publish personal research works, articles.
- Reimburse technical expenses of the project - the project requires personal expenses like hosting, domain name, administration etc.
Project goals
[edit]- Wikijournal.org is the international project that has several localizations (Russian, English, German and Italian and French will be launched soon. Now it is necessary to register the website as Mass media organization at least in Russian, but later it should be done in other countries as well.
- There are some users that interested in the developing the project who participate in negotiations to organize strong community of Wikijournal. User group link: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/WikiJournal/WikiJournal_User_Group
- As soon as the organization is legally incorporated and has its clear structure we are going to make an application to be a sister project with Wikimedia Foundation (to become thematic organization) so that we can have more opportunities for further Wikijournal development: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_thematic_organizations
- As long as we are going to realize above objectives WikiJournal needs Reimbursement of technical expenses as it doesn't have any support and the project are volunteer driven and do not generate any revenue for it and will be absolutely non commercial organization
- Develop all current localization by publishing or translating articles.
Project impact
[edit]How will you know if you have met your goals?
[edit]For each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:
- During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
- Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)
For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (i.e. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents).
Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
There are certain criteria that allow to define the outcome of the project:
- Number of active registered users - To inform users within Wikimedia projects as well as at different social networks.
- Number of published articles - To encourage users to publish personal, relevant, useful articles for free and share them with others.
- General number of visits of WikiJournal website. - The tools like Google Analytics are installed to have general information on visits the website and its popularity
Do you have any goals around participation or content?
[edit]Are any of your goals related to increasing participation within the Wikimedia movement, or increasing/improving the content on Wikimedia projects? If so, we ask that you look through these three metrics, and include any that are relevant to your project. Please set a numeric target against the metrics, if applicable.
- Total participants - Currently there are 9 users who participate at developing of WikiJournal project.
- Number of newly registered users- Now there are only 28 registered users at the project, but they don't have any activity yet.
- Number of content pages created - Now there are 6 different localizations. But the most developed is Russian version of WikiJournal that has more than 200 published articles. The rest localizations has been just created. English version should be merged with some articles published by the group at wikiversity

Community engagement
[edit]How will you let others in your community know about your project? Why are you targeting a specific audience? How will you engage the community you’re aiming to serve at various points during your project? Community input and participation helps make projects successful.
We have already organized group of users from different countries who is interested in the project and its development. We are targeting a specific audience (scientists, journalists), because the project allows to publish their own articles or research works without any fees following main mission of Wikimedia (free information and knowledge).
