Request changes
[edit]We understand that sometimes plans change. Please use this button to request approval for changes to your grant’s budget while your project is in progress. Any variation of 20% or more to any line item in your budget must be approved by staff here before you make the change (for projects with budgets of $15,000 or more, the accepted variance is 10%).
Budget change request
[edit]We would like to shift funds originally earmarked to fund graduate fellowship awards to instead continue funding our Wikipedian-in-Residence through the end of 2022.
Rationale
[edit]Our cohort of graduate fellows ended up being smaller (4 rather than 6) than we budgeted for and we were able to pay awards for two of them out of funds from our previous project grant. WiR funding will help sustain ongoing CCCCWI programs and events through the end of the project grant period.
- @Drkill: Thanks for this reallocation request towards programmatic expenses due to the underspend on the graduate fellow awards. The request is formally approved. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:51, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
Budget change request 2
[edit]Grantees have requested an extension and $18,078.00 of additional funding with the following rationale, which I am approving:
- We are requesting an extension to our current project grant to continue supporting the CCCC Wikipedia Initiative in the interim before applying for a General Support Fund in March 2023. Support includes funding the CCCC WiR’s salary, honoraria for scholars presenting talks as part of CCCCWI Speaker Series events, and administrative costs for financial management needs. Modifications to pre-exisiting project outputs:
- We began organizing a new CCCCWI Speaker Series at the conclusion of the 2021-22 CCCC Wikipedia Graduate Fellowship Program. The series adapts our previous workshop series to a speaker/workshop model based on the success of similar programming from several organizations that lie at the intersection of knowledge equity and the Wikimedia movement– the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative, AfroCROWD, and Black Lunch Table–that bring in experts to discuss a specific topic or theme as a powerful engagement tactic. We experienced some of the effectiveness of this model within our own initiative when we invited scholars to live edit Wikipedia on Twitch through our CCCCWI Coffeehouse series. We have modified our traditional workshop series–outlined in our project impact section—by inviting an academic to speak on their research, providing Wikipedia training hosted by the CCCC WiR, and offering opportunities for direct editing at the end of the event. Borrowing strategies developed by Wikimedia Deutschland’s learning pattern–How to generate publicity and foster collaboration: Organizing an event series–we are working with CCCC member groups, 2021-22 CCCC Wikipedia Graduate Fellows, and international professional organizations in the field to collaborate on themes and suggested speakers that will be a draw to diverse groups within our academic community. We have already begun to see the burgeoning success of this model through our first two speaker series events. Our most recent speaker series event in October garnered our highest attendance to a CCCCWI workshop yet, and helped scholars input information on Wikipedia about marginalized-teacher-scholars whose research investigates the intersection of Rhetoric and Disability Studies. To continue supporting this model, we need monetary stipends to fund honoraria for speakers.
- Alongside the CCCCWI Speaker Series, we will continue to provide our ongoing programming and events listed in the project impact section of the project grant proposal. Our core project goals have not changed despite a shift in some of the specifics of our project outputs. With the support of this project grant, we’ve been afforded the opportunity to explore a diversity of engagement models and encountered challenges that have allowed us to rethink how we engage scholars in this work. Our initiative events, programs, outreach, and growth could not be sustained without continued funding to support the CCCC WiR’s critical role. Adjusted financial breakdown Below is an updated breakdown of the funding we need to sustain us until 30 June 2023. The WiR monthly salary is adjusted to include a 14.5% cost of living adjustment based on national CPI data between December 2020 and September 2022 and a 4% raise commensurate with the WiR’s experience and skillset.
- Expense Breakdown Amount
- Wikimedian-in-residence 80 hours/month at $2,370 x 6 months: *$14,220.00
- Speaker series stipends $250/month x 6 months: $1,500.00
- Administrative costs @ 15%: $2,358.00
- TOTAL $18,078.00
