Project Goal

- Movement Charter: There is a lack of awareness among significant members of our community regarding the Movement Charter, leading to limited engagement. This project offers an opportunity for community members to come together, discuss, and enhance their understanding of decision-making processes within the movement. It aims to shed light on how these decisions impact both the individuals involved and the significant work underway
Project Background
[edit]- When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
- March 25, 2024-April 21, 2024. The project is intended to start from March 25 2024 with the translation of the meta page into Dagaare, Dagbani and Moore, and end on April 21, 2024 with Summary of meetings posted on Meta
- Where will your project activities be happening?
- In-person (offline): Our community members are available to meet in-person. People engage better this way. We will also host online meetings to onboard other community members who are interested in the conversations but cannot participate in-person.
- Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
- Yes, I, User:Alhassan Mohammed Awal will cooedinate the enitire project. I intend to collaborate with the Dagaare, Dagbani and Moore Wikimedia Communities in the conversations and workshops.
The aim is to collaboratively utilize the funding support to localize the Movement Charter by getting experienced translators from the three language communities to translate the documents into their respective languages. The localization will trigger exciting discussions among community members in the conversations since their understading is enhanced by reading about the Movement Charter in their languages. User:Achiri Bitamsimli will be in charge of that. The communities involved are willing to use their communication channels such as mailing lists, social meidia handles and community portals to promote and create awareness about the project for wider engagements and outreach to community members. User:Sir Amugi and User:Zakaria Tunsung will be resposible for that.
- What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
- Many of the members of the smaller and underrepresented Wikimedia Communities like ours lack sufficient knowledge about the Movement Charter and as a reslut are left behind in the engagement processes. The Dagaare Wikimedia foreinstance is a community of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who are passionate about promoting and preserving their indigenous Dagaare language through the various Wikimedia Projects. Through their efforts, they were able to use just 10 months to incubate their language incubator and got it into live Wikipedia. However, none of their community members engages in the Movement Charter conversation because they do not know what it is all about. They are unaware of how and where they can get involved in the discussions and how certain decisions are made and how they affect them. This project presents an opportunity for community members to engage in discussions, in oreder to deepen their comprehension of decision-making processes within the movement. The objective is to shed light on how these decisions influence both the individuals involved and the important work currently in progress. As underrepresented and indigenous as our languages are, there is no machine support translation for them. However, we intend to leverage the experience of the language experts in the communities to mannually translate the relevant documents, pages and resources about the Movement Charter into their respective languages for members to be able to access and read them in their languages for enhanced understanding to enable them contribute meaningfully and significantly in the conversations. All the communities have dedicated communication channels and we will take advantage of that to promote the project and reach out to wider audience.

- Yes. Movement Charter Ambassadors conversations by Organizing community review conversations (online/offline) in our communities, collecting their feedback, and reporting back on Meta-Wiki, Translating the Charter content to ensure it is accessible in our communities' languages and
Distributing Movement Charter-related announcements in our communities.
Project Activities

- We will specifically carry out these activities in accordance with the timelines stated above:
- Translations: the following documents and pages will be translated into Dagaare and Dagbani.
- Movement Charter content pages
- Reports pages
- Forms / Survey translations
- Conversation events pages

- Community Engagement:
- Outreach: While we are working on translations, we will ensure to reach out to the communities and inform them about the upcoming engagements. We will use the event registration tool and share on all the community communication channels for community members to register to participate.
- MCDC community workshop: We will host an initial 2-3 hour workshop. This workshop will be about sharing the details of the Movement Charter with our community members. We will share practical examples of why their contribution to the Movement Charter discussions is important.
MCDC community conversation: We will host another 2 hour conversation session with our community members to discuss a shared plan and approach for how we engage in Movement Charter discussions
- Who will be responsible for delivering on this project and what are their roles and responsibilities?
- User:Alhassan Mohammed Awal is an experienced Wikimedian who will coordinate the entire project. He has volunteered in many Wikimedia Projects over the past years and have been engaged actively in the the Movement Charter Converzations and currently volunteering as an advisor to the MCDC.
- User:Sir Amugi is a Communications expert and have played several cruitial roles in communicating, writing blog posts, and managing of social media platforms for smaller Wikimedia Communities within our region. He will be responsible for outreach, campaigns and general communications for the project.
- User:Achiri Bitamsimli an experienced Wikimedia projects facilitator who has trained many Wikimedians in Ghana across all projects. He will be a facilitator with the support of the coordinator to train participants on how to take effectively get invovled in the movement charter converzations. He will also take community members through the translation processes of all the materials to be translated.
- User:Zakaria Tunsung is a passionate Wikimedian from the Upper West of Ghana where Wikimedia projects are not so popular. He was instrumental in getting the first Wikimedia Community in that region to move their Wikipedia Incubator to Live Wikipedia. He will coordinate the online meetings for the Dagaare Community members who for proximity reasons to the event venue may not be able to participate in-person.
- User:Hasslaebetch is an IT expert and a team member of the Moore Wikimedia Community. He will be resposible for fixing all techinical issues for the project.
- User:Daara Original will be responsible for managing logistics for the entire project.

- Dagaare Language: Joachim Yirkang (User:Joachim Yirkang) will be resposible for the translation
- Dagbani Language: Abdul Karim Ibrahim (User:AFA IBRAHIM) will do the translation.
- Moore Language: Alidu Alhassan (User:Hasslaebetch) will do the translation

- The language communities are strategically selcted for this project to ensure that the impact does not end with them alone but will put them in a better position to also reach out to other communities by extending the skills and knowledge they have acquired to them also to get familiar with issues surrounding the movemment charter and how they can also get involved in the process.
Outcomes
[edit]After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.
In this report, you will be asked to:
- Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
- Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
- Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
- Report on how your funding was spent
Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:
- What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
- What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
- What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
- How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?
To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

The requested budget and budget breakdown should be in your or recipient’s local currency. We send grant payments preferably in your local currency. - The project is a perfect idea for helping the smaller Wikimedia communities to be a part of the movement strategy discussions.
