- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
We have three objectives mainly regarding this event
Content Diversity and Reducing Gender Gap : The main event is to celebrate international women’s day as we are doing it for the last two years. We will create and modify articles on women as an initiative of global diversity on wikipedia. We will do it for a whole week from 1st of march up to 8th of march but meanwhile we will conduct an onground event too in which we will do this work by meeting in person.
Growth of Community Health : The second most important aspect of this event is being together for a community meetup. After Covid. We were continuously doing community meetups in online mode, only last year under only this event, we did an offline meetup. So, it will be great if we do an offline meetup after a year and discuss all the issues and future plans by meeting in person, then it will be more beneficial for our community health.
Content Enrichment : In April 2023, We are thinking of celebrating Punjabi Wikipedia Birthday Anniversary in a different way. Currently, we have around 38K articles and we are aiming to 50K up to April. So, this event is such kind of initiative which we are planning to achieve.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
We have two approaches here basically. First one is we are doing an online campaign in which we are organizing an online editthon for a whole week. In this segment, we are listing articles of prominent women or important articles regarding women. Secondly, we are doing an onground event to celebrate international women's day. In this two day event, we will do training sessions about wikipedia, wikisource and discussion sessions which will be more useful for community growth. We think these types of initiatives encourage more to contribute on wikimedia as a perspective of gender diversity.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
1. 19 March-26 March 2023 : Women Week Editthon (online mode) :
- 2. 25-26 March 2023 : On Ground Event Women Week Editthon
- 3. 25-26 March 2023 : In Person Community Meeting
- 4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
Not applicable
- 5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?
Gaurav Jhammat and Nitesh Gill : We both are active wikimedians from Punjabi Community and we are organizing this campaign for the last two consecutive years. We both will do such tasks of this regarding making lists of articles for editthon, organizing online campaigns and its documentation, organizing on ground event and its report writing.
- 6. Please state if your proposal aims to work to bridge any of the identified CONTENT knowledge gaps (Knowledge Inequity)? Select up to THREE that most apply to your work.
Content Gender gap, Language, Cultural background, ethnicity, religion, racial
- 6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.
We are organizing an online contest about creating or modifying articles related to women. This initiative directly leads to Gender Diversity. Second important aspect of this, according to participation of women in wikipedia and other wiki projects is only 9-13%.(https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/gendergap.lists.wikimedia.org/) But in Punjabi Community, this ratio is bit high. Even in the wikisource, Punjabi Community Growth is mostly dependent on women editors.
- 7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.
Diversity
- 8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?
Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background
- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?
We are focusing on Punjabi Wikimedians who will participate in this event. First They will participate in online contest and create or modify article related to women or gender gap. Community members will directly engage in this event in-person while we will do on ground event to celebrate international women day.
- 10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

Learning, Sharing, and Evaluation
[edit]- 15. What do you hope to learn from your work in this fund proposal?
This project has touched an issue which has led to new possibilities in our community. So, we need such type of event in which we can bring all these women editors to the same event and let them share their ideas and experiences with community. By this event, we want to strengthen our community, specially encouraging the female wikimedians to get more involvement in community decision making and event plannings.
