Niger State, situated in the North central region of Nigeria, stands as a sprawling expanse of diverse cultures and historical significance, yet its representation on Wikipedia remains underserved. Bursting with vibrant communities like the Nupe, Gbagyi, Kamuku, Kambari, Gungawa, Hun-Saare, Hausa, and Koro, this state is a tapestry of indigenous tribes. It boasts not only the title of being Nigeria's largest state by area but is also home to iconic figures like Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, former military rulers who have shaped the nation's history. Named after the majestic River Niger, this state is not just geographically significant but holds the key to Nigeria's hydroelectric power, housing major power stations such as Kainji Dam, Shiroro Dam, and the new Zungeru Dam. The historical Jebba Dam, straddling the border with Kwara state, and the expansive Kainji National Park, encompassing Kainji Lake, Borgu Game Reserve, Zugurma Game Reserve, and more, add layers to Niger's cultural and natural wealth. Yet, despite this wealth of heritage and a plethora of historical sites, the representation on Wikipedia is lacking, a void that a groundbreaking initiative aims to fill. This transformative project is not just about imparting digital skills to the youth of Niger State; it's a visionary mission to empower the next generation with the tools to reshape their state's digital narrative. The primary goal is clear—to equip the youth with digital and research skills that transcend the boundaries of local history and delve into notable landmarks and figures. Over four weeks, participants will undergo comprehensive training, facilitated by experienced editors ensuring the quality of their contributions. This collaborative approach guarantees accuracy, aligning with Wikipedia's high standards.

The significance of this initiative lies not only in addressing content gaps but in fostering a sense of ownership among the youth. By actively participating in the global knowledge base, they become ambassadors, amplifying the voice of Niger State on the world stage. The inclusion of images and visual materials adds depth and richness to the content, making it not just informative but visually appealing. Niger State stands at the brink of transformative change, poised to bridge the gap in Wikimedia engagement. Unlike states with established communities, Niger is yet to experience the full potential of training programs and edit-a-thons. However, this groundbreaking project is set to change the narrative by establishing the first-ever Wiki community meeting, involving students from selected institutions such as the Federal College of Wildlife Management, Hadiza Memorial College of Health Science, and College of Education New Bussa Campus. It's an opportunity to unlock the untapped potential of Niger State, fostering awareness, engagement, and growth in the dynamic world of Wikimedia. This initiative is not just about editing articles; it's about shaping a narrative, fostering empowerment, and leaving an indelible mark on the digital landscape of Niger State.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Embarking on a transformative journey, our project aims to unveil the vast potential of Wikimedia in Niger State through a month-long campaign that transcends traditional boundaries. Picture five dynamic sessions, each meticulously designed to not just introduce Wikimedia but to establish a thriving community within the state.

1. Two Days of In-Person Workshops: Immerse yourself in a world of discovery as three of our five engaging facilitators lead an intensive two-day physical workshop. Participants will delve into the basics of Wikimedia, creating accounts and making on-site minor edits—a hands-on initiation into the realm of digital knowledge.
2. Two Series of Online Reinforcement Training: Enter the digital realm with two online facilitators who will guide you through the intricacies of editing on Wikipedia, Wikicommons, and Wikidata. This segment is more than training; it's a refining process, addressing weaknesses, and elevating your editing skills to new heights.
3. One Day In-Person Review Session (Final Day): After the immersive physical and online training, take a two-week interval to put your newfound knowledge into practice. The journey culminates in an Edit-a-thon, where excellence is recognized with certificates. A dedicated WhatsApp group becomes your hub for encouragement, questions, and discussions. The final day reconvenes for a physical training—a celebration of achievements, clarifications, and certificate awards, wrapping up the project in style.

Creating a Community of Wikimedia Editors in Niger State: Beyond certificates, our vision extends to sustainability. On the last day, witness the birth of a vibrant Wikimedia community in Niger State. Guided by the expertise of M I Idrees through the Hausa user group, this community isn't just a conclusion but a springboard for ongoing collaboration and growth.

In this month-long odyssey, you're not just learning; you're becoming architects of change, shaping the digital narrative of Niger State on platforms that echo globally. Revolutionizing the digital landscape of Niger State is no small feat, and our ambitious initiative is poised to make waves by training and recruiting 50 dynamic new editors across the selected institutions. This isn't just about numbers; it's about empowering the vibrant youth across diverse higher institutions, writers, and youth associations in Niger State. Our campaign isn't just limited to assembling a team; it's about raising awareness, igniting curiosity, and unveiling the vast potential of Wikimedia projects. While many may be acquainted with English Wikipedia, we're shedding light on the lesser-known treasures of languages like Hausa and Fulfulde, resonating with the rich linguistic tapestry of Niger State. From crafting new articles to making minor edits, our participants will become architects of a digital realm brimming with enriched content about people, places, organizations, and more.

But our commitment doesn't end with training. We're employing the power of technology with the outreach dashboard, tracking contributions, and providing personalized one-on-one support.
