You can recall these learning questions below: Learning Question 1: How effective were our community engagement strategies in reaching diverse participants across different regions in Zambia? Data Collection: Monitor participation demographics, attendance at workshops, and community events. Collect feedback on the reach and inclusivity of engagement efforts. Learning Question 2: How did the project contribute to the development of participants' photography skills and their ability to capture cultural narratives? Data Collection: Gather feedback through post-event surveys on participants' perceived improvements in photography skills. Evaluate the technical quality and storytelling aspects of submitted photos. Learning Question 3: How effective were the training sessions and workshops in preparing participants for the competition, considering both online and offline formats? Data Collection: Assess workshop attendance, participation levels, and post-workshop feedback. Evaluate the quality of submitted photos in relation to workshop topics. Learning Question 4: How did partnerships with cultural organizations, educational institutions, and local businesses contribute to the success of the project? Data Collection: Evaluate the level of engagement and support from partners. Collect feedback on the perceived value of these partnerships from both organizers and participants.

Through the implementation of our project, we learned valuable lessons from our community engagement strategies, training sessions, and partnerships. Our efforts successfully reached a diverse group of participants across different regions in Zambia, though urban areas had higher participation rates. Feedback highlighted the need for more targeted outreach to remote communities and continuous feedback mechanisms to enhance inclusivity. Participants reported significant improvements in their photography skills, particularly in technical aspects and storytelling. Interactive and hands-on workshops proved to be the most effective, with both online and offline formats showing varied engagement levels. Our partnerships with cultural organizations, educational institutions, and local businesses were instrumental, adding credibility and enriching the learning experience.

In the future, we plan to design targeted outreach strategies for rural areas and enhance our inclusivity efforts through diverse communication channels. We'll continue offering blended learning with a focus on interactive sessions and develop advanced curriculum content. Ongoing support, such as online tutorials and mentorship, will help participants further develop their skills. Strategic partnerships will remain a cornerstone of our approach, ensuring mutual benefits and clear roles to maximize impact. By applying these learnings, we aim to create more inclusive, skill-focused, and collaboratively driven projects that achieve greater success and impact.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

We got a partnership with Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony National Team. This partnership was an unexpected and delightful surprise during our project implementation. It opened up numerous opportunities for cultural exchange and provided us with unique access to document and share the rich heritage of the Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony. The unexpected partnership with the Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony National Team proved to be a valuable experience, contributing significantly to the success of our activities and providing us with important insights for future projects.

Lessons Learned:

Value of Partnerships: Building strong partnerships with local cultural institutions can significantly enhance the scope and impact of our projects. The collaboration with the Likumbi Lya Mize team provided us with resources and access that we would not have had otherwise. Flexibility and Adaptability: Being flexible and adaptable in response to unexpected situations is crucial. We learned to quickly devise alternative plans when faced with logistical or technical challenges. Community Involvement: Engaging local communities not only enriches the project but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride among community members. Their enthusiasm and support were instrumental in the success of our activities. Preparation and Planning: Detailed planning and preparation are essential to manage complex partnerships and logistical operations effectively. This includes having backup plans for technical issues and clear communication channels with all stakeholders.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

  • We will present our project results and insights during regular community meetings and gatherings. These meetings provide a platform for interactive discussions, feedback, and knowledge exchange among community members.
  • We will use online platforms such as social media, our blog, and Wikimedia mailing lists to disseminate our project learnings and results.
  • Regular updates and posts will be shared to keep the community informed and engaged.
  • We hope to present our project outcomes and lessons learned at relevant conferences and events such as Wiki Indaba, Wikimedia Summit, and Wikimania. These events offer a wider audience and the opportunity to share our experiences with a global community of Wikimedia contributors.
  • We will actively seek feedback from community members on the shared learnings and results. This feedback will help us refine our approaches and improve future projects.
  • Follow-up sessions will be organized to discuss the implementation of suggestions and to track the progress of applying the shared learnings.
