Part 1: Project and impact[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

The project commenced with a photo walk held on the 16th of April,2024 at Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri, Imo state with some community members in attendance. The organizer of this project had already gone to discuss with the stadium administrators, staff and coaches about our coming for a photo walk. We agreed on a date being 16th of April, 2024. We went to the Basketball pitch where the cripple and one legged players have their sports training. we stayed there for an hour watching the physically challenged as they played and we snapped the important aspects. We also went to the tennis ball playing room, we met the coach and other players especially the physically challenged. We saw a hunch back girl playing Tennis ball with an able bodied person, we stay for some time and watched them as they played and we snapped the performing activities part. We went also to the Power lifting session of the stadium where the crippled male and female usually have their trainings, we stayed for a while watching different Power lifter as they practice power lifting. At the Power Lifting session, we saw different Iron Rods of different sizes, weighing(80 kg, 100kg, and 120 kg) we took snap shots and uploaded them on Wikicommons for referencing and usage. At any session we went, we would introduce ourselves and motives, and would also ask for their volunteer membership to Wikimedia Foundation. With the aid of gifts and personal interaction from me (the project organizer), we were able to sail through the photo Walk process. We have uploaded up to (100) photos. We embarked in online training session on 4th May which sparked off our Edit-a-ton. The Edit-a-thon lasted from 4th May-3rd June, 2024. 19 online participants participated on the training and (4) Articles were created, (221) Articles were improved and some translated to igbo language. Aderiqueza came 1st, Kambai Akau came 2nd, while Kelechi Daniel (visually impaired) got the 3rd prize. There were (4) physical training days sessions for the physically challenged : the first and second day physical training days were held on 29th & 30th May, 2024 respectively, at the Centre for Academic and Vocational Training For Special Needs Children (Special School Nsukka), University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Their were (23) participants in attendance (12 physically challenged- 1crippled, 4 hearing impaired, 7 visually impaired; and 11 able bodied persons). On 30th May, another physical training was held at University of Nigeria, Nsukka Hotel (premises), (5) visually impaired attended. Furthermore, two physical training sessions were held at the Recreation centre, University of Nigeria, on 31th May (2 blind persons attended) and 15th June , June, 2024(3 blind persons attended). In summary, their were 7 physically challenged ( 6 visually impaired and 1 crippled) who successfully created Wiki account and have joined Igbo Wikimedia volunteers community: maxwelloparamark Agulanna Chisom Kelechi Daniel ------------He translated English Articles to Igbo. prince uche nwankwo Rejoice Chidimma Nwachukwu Charles240 In furtherance, there were (6) able bodied persons who successfully created a Wiki account and have joined Igbo Wikimedia user group as volunteers; they include: chiomaogugua Aandoaver14 Ngoziokoro001 Jamesobinna981 chinagorom1 Khadjamuhd

What helped us achieve this great feat are series of trainings mixed with individualized teaching approach. Tenacity and zealousness played a significant role in carrying out this project.

Part 2: Learning[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: I expect to have learned many skills which as a project lead of "visibilizing disabilities in Nigeria". I expect to have built tenacity in our Hub and have extended my network. I feel that i should have recruited new volunteers, training, team building, follow-up, I expect some page articles been improved, translated and some pages created. I also expect to see related photos uploaded.

(1) My technological knowledge was up skilled (2) I gained organizational skill (3) Tenaciousness became our watch word (4) Physically challenged & able bodied volunteers had joined the community (5) There were serial physical trainings for the physically challenged & able bodied persons (6) There was a follow-up, physical and through Watssap channel. (7) Articles were improved, translated and some articles were created (8) Photos relating this project were uploaded to Wiki commons. I have already fused the new volunteers to their close Igbo Wiki Hubs and I have followed them up physically and online via Whatsaap. I have not relented in reaching out to them to know their intentions.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

The hearing Impaired secondary school students and their few teachers decided to join in the physical training. I learnt that even the secondary school students are eager to join Wikimedia as volunteer editors. One training did not provide my targeted goal or objectives, it was when we increased the number of physical trainings that we started recording a better result. The physically challenged are always in need of help and financial assistance. There was a sit- at- home order in the Eastern part of Nigeria on 29th & 30th of May, 2024, but it did not deter us; tenaciousness played a decisive role for us.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

This will be done in our monthly meeting. I will also share the outcome in the forth coming Wikimedia User Group Nigeria's conference in the month of September, 2024.

We made some changes on having online conversation with the physically challenged and able bodied persons within the community, we replaced it a feedback assessment forms, which were filled by the physically challenged who bare their minds on the Feedback forms. Attached above are the links to their responses. The primary reason of not having the online conversation was as a result of differentiation or method of conversing with deaf and blind through the media. This is also applicable for not having the virtual training, rather, we choose individualized training for them. Thanks
