- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
The change we want to bring is adding new Wikiquote articles and improving existing ones about popular africans. This project seeks to close the content gap on African's quotes. There are not many quotes from well-known Africans on Wikiquote, it appears Africans have a long history of writers, poets, politicians, leaders, and other intellectual Africans whose popular intellectual works and quotations fulfill the requirements for a wikiquote page but are not present on the Wikiquote . Popular African leaders, writers, authors, poets, etc. have very little content on Wikiquote that merits a stand-alone article on Wikiquote to knowledge equity of the Wikimedian movement. The focus of this project will be on adding new articles about popular African leaders quotes and also the popular African women leaders quotes on Wikiquote
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
We plan to accomplish this using the following approaches:
- 1.Organizing physical meetup/training
- 2.Edit a thon
- 3.Contest
Creating new contents and improving existing contents on African Poets, Leaders, Politicians, Writers, Influencers, Authors, among others.
Training and recruiting new editors for the Wikimedia Community. At the end, the project will contribute, support and bridge the underrepresented articles on African related contents on Wikiquote.
And the contest will serve as a medium of engaging and encouraging participants. to actively edit on Wikiquote, as prizes will be awarded to top contributors.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
Based on the above approaches, here are the following activities to be undertaken:
- 1.Survey: A survey of popular Africans in different professional fields who profile are absent or in need of reinforcement will be identified and publicized.
2 physical Trainings: there will be a two physical training session for available participants and also virtual during the physical trainings for participants who are not available. All participants will be trained on how to contribute to Wikiquote and guides will be provided to participants.
- 3.Edit-a-thons: This will encourage collaborative research and knowledge exchange and also aid participants in understanding what they were taught during the training session. A list has been compiled by the team which would assist participants in knowing what to work on.
- 4. Contest: The training will be followed by a contest for editors to see how well they have learnt what was taught during the trainings and allow participants contribute to free knowledge on wikiquote. After which top participants will be awarded prizes after the contest.
