- R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
As per the Government of Education, India is home to 1600+ mother tongues. India has about 447 established languages and is fourth by most number of languages spoken in a country across the world. And we strongly believe that Building content in Smaller Indian languages is paramount to conserve and develop these languages. Kolami is a Dravidian indigenous language spoken in parts of Telangana and Maharashtra states of India. Kolami is spoken by 44000 people in Telangana, India. This language is one of the most under-resourced languages spoken in India. There is no mass media in the language and there was no education in the language until recently. With the introduction of New Education Policy in India, primary education in mother tongue is getting encouraged and it is a good time to prepare Kolami for the same. Government of Telangana has put continuous efforts in building Foundational literacy content for students of this community, the government has produced some books for early school education in recent times. It's high time to build content in the Kolami language, this helps the Kolam community with access to world knowledge.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
The Kolam speaking community is mostly concentrated in the northern part of Telangana, India. The community has about 44000 population in the state and the number of native speakers are going down day by day. We will be coordinating with Kolam Community and the local literary organization Utnoor Sahithi Vedika to bring awareness in the community and connect with youth by organizing online and offline awareness meets in Educational institutions and Community places.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
We will be taking up a 6 day awareness drive dividing it into three parts with 2 days each, out of which two offline sessions and one online session will be held. One offline session will be hosted in an Educational institute (interaction with youth) the second will be hosted in a community set up with the help of Utnoor Sahithi Vedika, Adilabad.
Apart from this we will be translating the basic resources for Introduction to Wikipedia, FAQ's, Help in navigating, Typing in Kolami(Telugu script), Building first article. This translation is to serve the training purposes for upcoming Kolami Wikipedia editors.

We are working on building Southeastern Kolami Wikipedia from August 2022. It took about two months for me (User:Nskjnv) to discuss the importance of free knowledge and building content in the local language for the Kolami community. After several meetings Mothiram, a writer by profession from the Kolami community, started volunteering to build content. Later we conducted an in person event for the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign from Telugu Wikipedia to bring awareness about Wikimedia and helped them participate in the WPWP(Telugu) local campaign in October 2022. Till date we have 10+ enthusiasts, 4 active editors and about 72 pages in different name spaces are created within a span of 4 months on the Kolami Wikipedia incubator version.
